Justice, Not Jail; Preservation, Not Sprawl

An interfaith group representing more than 20 congregations unveiled two platforms on Sunday to stop the destructive effects of urban sprawl and address inequities in the criminal-justice system. Quad Cities Interfaith presented the plans to several hundred people at a "Proclaim Jubilee" gathering at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Davenport.

Scott County is moving forward with a $1.5 million plan to expand and remodel its juvenile-detention facility, and construction could start early next year. The Scott County Board of Supervisors on August 31 unanimously approved a resolution authorizing county staff to begin negotiations for planning, design, and architectural services.

Quad City Radio Group Sold to Clear Channel Com

Clear Channel Communications announced today that it has signed an agreement to acquire KUUL-FM, KMXG-FM, KCQQ-FM, WLLR-FM, WLLR-AM and WOC-AM in Davenport, Iowa from Mississippi Valley Broadcasting, Inc., an affiliate of Sconnix Broadcasting, LLC, for the purchase price of $85 million.

Alternatives Work

The jail population in Scott County has steadily dropped this year, leaving Sheriff Mike Bladel with something unfamiliar: empty beds on a regular basis. From March through June, Scott County's average monthly jail population was at or below the 208-person capacity allowed for the main facility (128 inmates) and its minimum-security annex (80).
