DAVENPORT, IOWA- The cows are coming home to Bereskin Fine Art Gallery & Studio February 3-26. "Till the Cows Come Home" includes portraits of local brown swiss cattle painted by more than 20 students at Mrs. B's School of Art, a local art program catering to all ages and abilities.
The portrait models belong to Ronald Paaske of Hillsdale, IL, who has spent his life raising Brown Swiss cows. His award-winning cattle make their home at Brierwood Farms, also in Hillsdale.
Ages of the artists represented in the show range from eighth grade through adulthood. Many were surprised by the complexity of their seemingly simple subjects. "I found the shapes of the cows very interesting. There were a bunch of funny geometric shapes that you wouldn't normally notice," said Lauren Brewer, 11th grade. Paige Jackson, 12th grade, was surprised by the "hidden colors" she found in the cows' fur and facial features.
The public is invited to view the portraits during Bereskin Fine Art Gallery's regular operating hours, Wednesday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Students will be on hand to talk about their work during a reception on Friday, February 26 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Bereskin Fine Art Gallery is located at 225 E. 2nd Street., Suites 102 and 104, Davenport, Iowa, 52801. For more information contact owner Pat Bereskin at 563-508-4630Support the River Cities' Reader
