June 1st 1976 Dr. Herath and his wife Pat founded their veterinary practice for pets and are still happily serving the area with two associate Veterinarians, and excellent staff.

 

 

Milan- Andalusia Road Veterinary Founders, - Dr. Robert Herath and his wife Pat, a registered nurse, opened their pet practice 40 years ago.

 

Bob Graduated from Moline High School in 1966, did his undergraduate studies at Augustana, received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Illinois in 1973.

 

The Herath’s moved to Jackson Michigan for the first 3 years to gain knowledge and experience in every day clinical, surgical, and management skills.

 

Dr. Bob’s father, Dr. William Herath Sr., was the first anesthesiologist in the Quad City area (1947). Dr. Bob takes after his father in pioneering new and effective medical procedures.

 

Before leaving Michigan Dr. Bob Developed skills in avian medicine (cage birds) He is a charter member of Association of Avian Veterinarians (AAV). He was one of the first in America to be certified in veterinary acupuncture (IV.A.S.) at Purdue University in April 1976.

 

Dr. Bob was first in the area to hire a certified veterinary technician. Their degree allows them to do everything except diagnosing, surgery, and prescribing medicine.

 

Dr. Bob says he never had to go to work: “he gets to go.” He loves people and animals and has raised up great staff who are like minded and willingly show up and serve the clients and the patients.

 

We are now celebrating 40 years in Milan with two great full time Veterinarians: Dr. Chris Rall and Dr. Jen Bock- Vanaria. Our warm and friendly support staff: Lori (office manager), Alicia, Jess, and Amber (certified techs), Jaime and Tara (techs in training), receptionists Julie and Diana!
