A huge mosaic, “Welcome to the Garden,” which depicts Christ in a beautiful garden, will be installed in St. Mark Ev. Lutheran Church, Davenport, as a legacy gift from the late Catherine “Katie” Wallace and Charles ”Chuck” Wallace, who were long-time members of the St. Mark congregation.
Perhaps the largest of its kind in the Quad Cities, the 7-by-11-foot stained glass mosaic will be installed by the artists during the week of Oct 24th. A public dedication will be 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, between worship services at the church, 2363 W. 3rd St., Davenport.
“This mosaic will not only welcome everyone who comes to St. Mark, but it also will serve as a lasting memorial to this special couple,” said the Rev. Travis Fisher, of Davenport, senior pastor at St. Mark. “We invite the community to the dedication and to visit us to see this beautiful artwork that serves as a welcome to Jesus, the church, and into the promised garden.”
Mosaic artists Sandra and Carl Bryant of Lynden, Washington, who have created large mosaics all around the country, designed the mosaic that will be created from thousands of small pieces of hand-cut, stained glass.
