Lyons, Neb. - Center for Rural Affairs Policy Director Johnathan Hladik today said the organization looks forward to working with Sonny Perdue, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture nominee.
“For more than 40 years, the Center for Rural Affairs has been a leading force in standing up for the family farmer and rancher, small business owner and rural communities. We look forward to working with Gov. Perdue, President-Elect Trump and the new USDA leadership as they listen to and work with rural Americans to develop the 2018 Farm Bill and other policies.
“We urge the new administration to follow through on their campaign rhetoric by committing to entrepreneurship in support of rural microenterprises; leveling the playing field for beginning, small and mid-sized farmers; and finalizing and implementing the three introduced Farmer Fair Practice Rules that create much-needed protections for family farmers and ranchers.
“Through USDA’s wide diversity of programs that can impact rural communities, we hope to see increased support for rural communities that are struggling economically. We believe the Center for Rural Affairs and the new administration have the same goal in mind: establish genuine opportunity for all in rural communities, leading to a bright and vibrant future.”
