BANDITS SLUG RATTLERS SUNDAY

Magic number drops to seven for post-season berth

GRAND CHUTE, Wisc. -- Three home runs led the Quad Cities River Bandits to a lopsided 13-3 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Sunday afternoon at a cloudy Fox Cities Stadium. Chuckie Robinson hit a grand slam while Josh Rojas and Troy Sieber each also went deep for Quad Cities and Daz Cameron hit a three-run double. Kit Scheetz struck out six over five scoreless innings to earn his second win in as many starts in the Midwest League.
Sieber's solo home run got the Bandits (36-20, 73-51) on the board in the first inning. Rojas clubbed a three-run homer two innings later, giving him eight RBI in the first three games of this series. Cameron then cleared the bases with a double off the wall to drive in three runs in the fourth. Ronnie Dawson also provided a run in the fourth inning with an RBI single, extending his hit streak to six games. Robinson left no doubt with his grand slam in the fifth, the 14th homer of the year for the full-season Midwest League All-Star.
Scheetz (2-0) scattered four hits over five scoreless frames without allowing a walk and striking out six to earn the win. The Rattlers (25-31, 51-73) got 3.2 innings from their starter, Victor Diaz (2-5), who allowed eight runs on five hits and four walks while striking out two. Cristian Javier hurled the final four innings of the game for Quad Cities to earn his first save of the year, allowing three runs on a Demi Orimoloye home run in the eighth inning.
The Bandits clinch at least a share of the 2017 season series with the Rattlers with the win Sunday. With four games left, Quad Cities can clinch a series win and season series win Monday in the finale at Fox Cities Stadium. RHP Yohan Ramirez (3-5, 5.40) gets the start for Quad Cities against Carlos Herrera (2-1, 3.38) for the Timber Rattlers. First pitch is slated for 12:05 p.m. CT and you can hear all the action with Jake Levy on 1170 AM K-BOB, riverbandits.com and the TuneIn app.

BANDITS FALL IN WISCONSIN SATURDAY

Five-run eighth inning digs too deep of a hole for Bandits

GRAND CHUTE, Wisc. -- The Quad Cities River Bandits scored three ninth-inning runs but the comeback fell short in an 8-5 loss to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Saturday night at Fox Cities Stadium. Nathan Thompson struck out a career-high eight batters over five innings in no decision.
Quad Cities (35-20, 72-51) scored the game's first run when Daz Cameron tripled and scored on a Josh Rojas groundout in the second inning. Wisconsin (25-30, 51-72) used a pair of solo home runs in the third and fourth inning to take the lead. Kristian Trompiz doubled home the tying run in the seventh inning, only to see Wisconsin regain the lead on a two-out single by Zach Clark, who had homered earlier in the game.
The Timber Rattlers then tacked on five insurance runs off Dustin Hunt (0-7) in the eighth. Hunt was tagged for six runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out five in 2.2 innings. Daniel Brown (5-3) stranded the bases loaded in the seventh to keep the game tied. He went 1.2 innings and allowed just one walk and a strikeout.
Ronnie Dawson doubled home a run as part of a three-run ninth that included two Wisconsin errors, but the Bandits could not complete the comeback, with Cameron striking out representing the tying run to end the game.

LATE RALLY PROPELS BANDITS FRIDAY

Josh Rojas drives in four in series-opening win over Wisconsin

GRAND CHUTE, Wisc. -- The Quad Cities River Bandits scored seven runs over the sixth and seventh innings to break away with a 10-3 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Friday night at Fox Cities Stadium. Josh Rojas drove in four runs in the game and Chuckie Robinson homered while Patrick Sandoval struck out eight over six innings of work to earn the win.

Tied at three headed to the sixth, the River Bandits (35-19, 72-50) rallied for the lead when Luis Payano singled home a run then Rojas launched a sacrifice fly to add to the total. Five more River Bandits runs scored in the seventh, led by a two-run single by Daz Cameron, a run-scoring knock by Ronnie Dawson and a two-run triple by Rojas to break the game open.
The Bandits started the scoring in the first when Robinson clubbed his 13th home run of the season, a two-run jack to left, to get the Bandits on the board. Rojas would follow up with a single to drive in his first of four runs in the game. Wisconsin (24-30, 50-72) tied the game with three runs in the third. Mario Feliciano hit a bases loaded ground ball to second, where Marcos Almonte committed both a fielding and throwing error to turn what could have been an inning-ending double play into two runs. One batter later, Mitch Ghelfi doubled home the tying run.
Sandoval (W, 2-2) hurled six innings, allowing three runs - two earned - on four hits and a walk while striking out a season-high eight. Natino Diplan (L, 3-10) allowed all seven runs late on eight its and a walk to suffer the loss.
The Bandits can clinch at least a split of the 2017 season series with a win over Wisconsin Saturday or Sunday.
