CLIVE, Iowa, Dec. 1, 2017 – A Davenport woman said she woke up her husband with news that she’d won the lottery.

Sally Cerra claimed the 10th of 19 top prizes of $30,000 available in the Iowa Lottery’s “Jolly Holiday Crossword” scratch game.

Cerra, 37, said she bought her winning ticket Wednesday at Golden Mart, 1026 W. River Drive in Davenport. She said she scratched off her ticket that night when she got home, while her husband, Don, was sleeping.

As she finished scratching off her ticket, she said she knew that she’d won.

“I’m patting my husband telling him, ‘You have to get up.’ And he goes, ‘What?’” Cerra told lottery employees Thursday as she claimed her prize at the lottery’s regional office in Cedar Rapids. “I said, ‘I won $30,000!’ He goes, ‘OK. I’m going back to bed.’ And I’m like, ‘No, you’re driving me to the gas station.’”

Cerra had her winning ticket confirmed at a local gas station. She said she plans to put a majority of her winnings toward a home remodeling project.
