· This Tuesday brings the super-sweet campaign by Rhino Records to re-present Elvis Costello's stunning career. From the snot 'n' sneer youngster of his 1977 Columbia Records debut through the seasoned-songwriting-statesman years on the Warner Bros. imprint, this new bonus-heavy upgrade series is being doled out three at a time - with a few months in between to fully savor these classics one more time. This Tuesday brings his debut My Aim Is True, All This Useless Beauty from 1996, and Spike from 1989. Each album comes in a two-CD case, with the original album on one platter and demos and rarities on the other. Some of the bonus highlights include the track "My Dark Life" with Brian Eno, a vocal version of "Stalin Malone," and the rare "Dallas version" of "Less than Zero" featuring different lyrics for the American audience. The expanded CDs' booklets promise 28 pages with rare photos, period memorabilia, and new liner notes by the artist himself.

· In conjunction with the newly expanded Apocalypse Now and its additional 53 minutes of footage, the Nonesuch label has just re-issued the film's soundtrack featuring two new tracks.

· Grab your day planner and start dreaming, as the UK music festival known as All Tomorrow's Parties is headed to the American campus of UCLA on October 19. The three-day fest looks like a contender to take the alternative-culture tribal torch up a few pegs, as audio experimenters Sonic Youth are curators of the event. The band's reputation has certainly opened up all the right doors: The lineup already includes performances by Stereolab, Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Stephen Malkmus of Pavement, The Melvins, Neil Michael Hagerty of Royal Trux, 1970s punk pioneers Television, Smog, and jazz great Cecil Taylor. Incorporated throughout the weekend will be film presentations and spoken-word artists such as Lydia Lunch and John Sinclair.

· The Suicide Machines have announced that the band's next album, entitled Steal This Record, will see daylight next month and will feature a cover of R.E.M.'s "It's the End Of the World As We Know It."

· Fans of the Super Furry Animals have a bounty of cool stuff to look forward to in the special DVD version of the band's new Rings around the World album. Released last week in the UK on the same day as the standard version of the new Epic Records CD, the DVD features individual short films by various independent filmmakers to accompany each track, as well as an extra six new songs and films from the Welsh critical favorites.
