Cool Site.   And I finally figured out how to get my blog going.    I have Explorer, so it might be an Exploder problem that I had.  But, Hey I'd like to blog on local original music being created in the QCs...  Lot's of CDs have been produced in the QCs (and a lot of local songwriters & musicians have done some great things outside the QCs after moving to L.A., Nashville & music mecas).  But I'd like to see (rather hear) more new projects here in the QCs.

I know I've already said itbut "Great Job On Your New RCR Site."

Hope to see (& hear) some interactive discussion on how we can get the creative juices going more (for songwriters) here in the QCs & surrounding area.    Where's All The Creative Musicians/Songewriters & Music Producers?   Not just NSAI folks, but All The Kickass  Songwriters in the Mississipp Valley!   I know you're out there.

New Rules. New Tools.

That seems to be the theme of the last several months at the Reader.
We hope you kick the tires well on the Reader's new website and all the tools we are deploying to make it easier and more fun to plan your day, week or life in the Quad Cities.

We've had some great premises over the years for this website, but never before have the tools been so accessible to achieve them. So in 2009 there are no excuses if we cannot help you find what you want, when you want it.

Please not the red "Feedback" tab to the left on your browser. Click it and you will have a pop up come up showing you the ways you can vote for site enhancements suggested by others, or suggest your own.  And there's a link to submit any "bugs" you find in the site.

Fair warning to all....if you are using Microsoft Explorer (which I lovingly refer to as "Exploder") you could be experiencing a less than 100% perfect experience at the Reader website. We are constantly striving to make all the scripts and tools we are so excited for you to use, compliant with Microsloth (I mean Microsoft, sorry)... but at some point we have to move on and get the site up.  I recommend Firefox at www.getfirefox.com for all. Not just for browsing this site, but for the entire internet.

Thanks for using the Reader site, and remember... we are updating the site daily with new content.

New Rules. New Tools.

It can be a traumatic thing to have something familiar and comfortable ripped away from you and given something new, even when the new is so much better than the old. So it is with the River Cities Reader. First they reduce the printed version down to every other week and removed content like the calendar from the printed version as well. Then they go and change their website to something totally different!

Well, admittedly, the calendar on the new site makes iu much easier to find what I am looking for and the cool new features of the site are nice but having that piece of paper in my hands is just... well... uhm....

Dirty? Yeah, my hands get filthy from holding that paper and ink in them. And then the used paper just takes up room in my recycling bin, hopefully to be recycled but who really knows.

But wait, the paper is easier to read! Yeah! Well, at least scan quickly through.

Well, until I want to go back and find that article I read and not sure exactly which issue or where. Then, the website is quicker, easier, and quite frankly less messy.

But I can't read it while sitting in my favorite coffee shop. Well, I could technically. Amazon's Kindle does allow me to do some minimal browsing on the web so I guess I could take the Reader anywhere provided I can get wireless coverage (never know about Sprint). And yeah, eventually I could see the Reader even becoming a regular download on the Kindle.  That could be sweet. And having my whole library of books in the palm of my hand is an awesome thought. But I digress.

Yes, it is traumatic to go through change but in todays fast pace world, companies like the Reader have to change with the world or die quickly. I would rather see the Reader live on in new formats than to just go away.  So I applaud the visionaries at the Reader for taking this brave new step and encourage them to keep improving the site and making it a place we all want to come back to.
