"Making Sense of Landscape Design" will be the topic of a class at 7 p.m. April 30 at the Iowa State University Scott County Extension and Outreach Office, 875 Tanglefoot Lane, Bettendorf.

Master Gardener Dan Mays will lead the class. Mays will discuss simple ways to make your yard look better using good presentation. The class is part of the Spring Garden Seminar Series offered by the ISU Scott County Extension and Outreach Master Gardeners.

Iowa State University Scott County Extension and Outreach Master Gardeners will hold a "Garden Fair" on Saturday, May 16, 2015 from 9:00am to 3:00pm at the Scott County Extension Office, 875 Tanglefoot Lane, Bettendorf, IA. Proceeds from this annual plant sale help fund horticulture education throughout the year.

Choose from annuals, perennials, grasses, herbs, houseplants, and vegetables, some of which are grown from seeds and cuttings or donated by Master Gardeners from their own gardens.  Yard

The free clinic offers an opportunity to talk with Master Gardeners about lawn and garden issues. Residents are encouraged to bring samples of insects, weeds or diseased plants for help identifying the problem and finding a solution. Master Gardeners use their research-based training and resources from Iowa State University to answer questions about lawn and garden care.

The clinic also is open most weekdays during the spring and summer at the ISU Extension and Outreach Scott County Office, 875 Tanglefoot Lane, Bettendorf. Please call the office at 563-359-7577 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for directions to the office and times when the Master Gardeners will be available.

Patrick O'Malley, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Commercial Horticulture Field Specialist, will give a presentation titled "Tomato Tech: How to Grow Better Fruit (Vegetables?)" at 7 p.m. April 23 at the Scott County Extension Office, 875 Tanglefoot Lane, Bettendorf.

O'Malley will give a brief whimsical overview on whether tomatoes are a fruit or a vegetable. He then will outline the steps to increase tomato production and flavor, from pre-planting to harvest.

Scott County Master Gardeners Colleen Adrian and Rhonda Cooper will present "Herbs: What You May or May Not Know" at 5 p.m. April 14 at the Quad Cities Food Hub, 421 W. River Drive, Davenport.


Adrian and Cooper are Iowa State University Scott County Extension and Outreach Master Gardeners. Their presentation will provide information on selecting, growing and using herbs. The session is free, but the Food Hub welcomes donations. To register, call the Food Hub at 563-265-2455.

Master Gardeners with Iowa State University Scott County Extension and Outreach have scheduled several spring classes at the Extension Office, 875 Tanglefoot Lane, Bettendorf. Master Gardeners are volunteers who use their research-based training and resources from Iowa State University to share information and ideas with others in the community.

If you would like to attend one of the sessions, please register by calling the Extension Office at 563-359-7577 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays. The programs are one to two hours long and cost $5 each.

We invite 4-H Members and non 4-H Members, parents and volunteers to join us for a day of inspiration and exploration.  Youth participants may choose from the following workshops to learn introductory skills, explore topics as a 4-H Project Area, learn from experts and gain insight as to how to apply these skills in future professional, educational or hobby pursuits:  Communications, Food Science, FSQA, Horticulture, Leadership, Livestock Clinic, Photography, Visual Arts and Woodworking

It will be held Saturday April 25, 2015, from 8:30 am-2:30 pm at North Scott High School, 200 S. 1st Street, Eldridge, Iowa.

During this workshop, nationally renowned speaker, John Robinson (www.ourability.com) will kick off the event inspiring us to see the potential we have inside us all, how to be a leader and a contributing citizen, sponsored by CARGILL
