Emma Simmons represents Central College at theater festival

PELLA, (02/04/2014)(readMedia)--  Central College freshman Emma Simmons, native of Davenport, competed in the Region V Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) in Lincoln, Neb. the week of Jan. 20. KCACTF is an annual festival dedicated to celebrate and improve the quality of collegiate theatre, while providing professional opportunities. The Region V festival drew 1,525 students from 81 colleges and universities.

Simmons was one of 316 nominees for the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship. The scholarship provides recognition, honor and financial assistance to outstanding student performers who wish to pursue further education.

Daniel Kuttler in Central College theater performance

PELLA, (02/04/2014)(readMedia)-- Central College sophomore Daniel Kuttler, a native of Davenport, will be in Central's theater performance of "The Ice Fishing Play" by Kevin Kling. Four performances will show from Feb. 26-March 1 at the Kruidenier Center on Central's campus. All show times are 7:30 p.m.

"The Ice Fishing Play" introduces a man in an icehouse on a frozen lake who just wants to fish for the proverbial big catch in peace and quiet. Kevin Kling is a well-known humorist, playwright and storyteller, and his commentaries can be heard on NPR's All Things Considered. His plays and adaptations have been performed around the world.

Ann Wilkinson, instructor of theater, will direct the performances.

Cost for general admission tickets is $6. Student and senior citizen tickets are $3 and admission is free with a Central ID. Central College student Dan Dankert competes at mock trial tournament

PELLA, (12/04/2013)(readMedia)-- Dan Dankert, a sophomore at Central College, competed in the BlueJay Open Mock Trial Tournament at Creighton University Nov. 22-23. The team finished with a 4-4 record. Dankert is a native of Davenport.

Emma Simmons, Dionne Riley to appear in Central College theatre production of "Legacy of Light"

PELLA, (11/13/2013)(readMedia)-- Freshmen Emma Simmons, a native of Davenport, and Dionne Riley, a native of Bettendorf, will participate in Central College's theatre production of "Legacy of Light".

"Legacy of Light" is a time-traveling comedy, which intertwines the stories of two female physicists from different eras. The legacies of Emilie du Chatelet, an 18th-century French scientist, and Olivia Hasting Brown, an astronomer in Princeton, N.J., collide in this play about the search for self-discovery, love, motherhood and scientific immortality.

The production, directed by Ann Wilkinson, instructor of theatre, will run Nov. 20-23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Kruidenier Theatre at Central College. Cost for general admission is $6. Student and senior citizen tickets are $3, and admission is free with a Central ID. Tickets are available at the Maytag Information Booth, by calling 641-628-9000.
