300+ Quad City Area Volunteers Needed:
Volunteers are currently being sought to support 11 upcoming
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) robotic competitions and events in our 7th year in the Quad City area reaching ~

1,400 students in grades K-12.  

No previous experience or technical background is required for many of the volunteer positions with adults and college and high school students eligible to volunteer.
It doesn't matter which FIRST program you volunteer for, you will always walk away at the end of the day with a sense of pride and fulfillment, knowing that you have helped children experience what they never might have without FIRST and without your support.

Please share the below information with students, parents, and anyone interested in attending or volunteering.

There is still time for kids(Incoming 2nd-8th graders) and/or to volunteer to attend a one day, Engineering Kids Camp. Camps will be held July 27-31 at the Putnam Museum supported by Iowa State University College of Engineering in partnership with the QCESC, John Deere, NDIA and the Putnam Museum.

Students can continue to pre-register for the camps until we reach capacity for each day.  The July 29 (2nd-3rd graders) camp is SOLD OUT.

July 27-31, Engineering Kids Camp @ Putnam Museum & Science Center
Students and volunteers are being sought for the 7th Annual Engineering Kids one day camps for students in grades 2nd through 8th grade (as of Fall). Nearly 400 students attended this very popular camp last year.  This camp is one of the best summer  STEM learning opportunities in the region with an exciting, engaging experience for your young innovator. Fun, imaginative sessions including three fun, hands on activities with LEGO Robotics, Software Coding and Innovation Challenge along with special showing of 3D Robotics Movie (National Geographic).  Attendees and volunteers receive lunch and a camp T-Shirt.

MOUNT CARROLL, IL -- Timber Lake Playhouse, the professional theatre company in Mount Carroll, is seeking volunteers for the Timber Lake Playhouse Volunteer Program.  At the heart of the TLP mission is an on-going commitment to provide the best in professional theatre in Northern Illinois.  To do this, TLP must rely on volunteers to support the mission.

All area residents who share a commitment to the arts are encouraged to join TLP in their work.  All talents and skill levels are valuable as opportunities exist in production, front of house, facilities and administrative tasks.

The first opportunity to volunteer is Saturday, April 25 for the Annual TLP Campus Cleanup.  Raking, gardening, cleaning and general outdoor work will be among the activities for the day.  Cleanup starts at 9:00.

Other volunteer opportunities throughout the season include working in the costume or scene shop, painting sets, working on the stage crew, helping in the box office, landscaping, fundraising, strategic planning, or joining the volunteer staff as a TLP Ambassador.

Timber Lake Playhouse's 54th Summer Season officially begins June 4th with the Tony Award winning musical Hairspray. Pre-season kick-off events include the Lena! Las Vegas Casino Night on Saturday, April 18th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at The Rafters in Lena, IL. Tickets are $50 and include appetizers, a starting purse, and chances to win prizes.  Timber Lake Playhouse in conjunction with Timber Lake Resort is hosting the Dueling Pianos on May 9th at 7:00 at the Playhouse.  Tickets are $20.

MOLINE, IL - With a sold-out crowd expected for the March 21 WQPT event, Imagination Station, the Quad Cities Public Broadcasting Station is issuing a call for volunteers to help with the day's activities.

Individuals interested in helping at the family-friendly event can sign up at wqpt.org/imagine. PBS characters including Clifford, Arthur, Curious George, Word Girl, Super Why, Peg + Cat, Daniel Tiger, Elmo and Abby Cadabby will be present, and each PBS character will have their own station with activities, stories and a career exploration track. In addition, PBS Kids host Mr. Steve will perform two shows.

"When we planned this event, which is a reinvention of our 1994-1998 program, we really didn't know what to expect for attendance. In the first four hours, we had more than 400 tickets requested and we have since sold out. We're thrilled with the interest and expected turnout," said Bea Brasel special projects coordinator.

Are you looking for a way to share your skills, talents, passion having fun and positively impact the lives of 250+ students age 12-18 in our community?

50+ volunteers are currently being sought to support the Saturday, 24Jan15 FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Robotics League Championship being held at Davenport West High School. 26 FTC Teams from the Quad City and Dubuque regions will be competing to qualify for the State Championship.  Link to Pictures from 2014 Quad City FTC Qualifier

No previous experience or technical background is required for many of the volunteer positions with training available. Positions are available for adults and students in college & high school. Applications for volunteering will continue to be accepted until we fill all of the posted positions.  Volunteers will be provided food, beverages, and a great experience supporting our local youth!

To volunteer,  you need to submit your on-line application with your contact

information and you can prioritize the volunteer roles you are interested in supporting. If you have not volunteered previously, you will need to create an account.  For others that have volunteered, you can log-in and select the 24Jan15 event and roles you want to support.

In order be assigned to a volunteer position, you will need to pass the background check which occurs when you apply as part of FIRST's new  Youth Protection Program.
Note: you are not required to provide your social security number and there is no cost for the background check to you.

  • 23Jan15 Deadline - QCESC scholarship applications for Quad City area high school students planning to enrolled in major in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) are being accepted until 23Jan15. Volunteers Needed  - Supporting Quad City Area Student Robotics Events

Are you looking for a way to share your skills, talents, passion having fun and positively impact the lives of students age 6-18 in our community?  200+ volunteers are currently being sought to support several upcoming FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) competitions and events in it's 6th year in the Quad City area  reaching 900+ students .
Background: FIRST was founded in 1989 by Dean Kamen (inventor of the Segway) with their mission to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.

    Note: Most pressing volunteer need now is supporting the 8Nov & 21Nov FTC events with volunteers needed for:  1 FTA (Field Technical Advisor), 3 Referees  /Hardware Inspectors including 1 Head Ref., 3 for Software Inspectors/ Scorekeeper / Field Control System (FCS) Operator combined including 1 Lead Software Inspector.     To volunteer for a position at one or more events, you need to visit the FIRST  VIMS (Volunteer Information & Management System)

    You will then need to:

    1. Create an account which includes providing contact information, info "About You" with all info except Military Service having "Prefer Not to Answer" as an option and your expertise.
    2. Find and apply to volunteer at one or more FIRST Events including the ones listed above (except Junior FLL which won't be setup for a few more days).  You can prioritize the positions you are interested in supporting. 
      Note:  In order be assigned to a volunteer position, you will need to pass the background check which occurs when you apply as part of FIRST's new Youth Protection Program.     Milestones Area Agency on Aging is seeking volunteers to deliver meals to home-bound seniors on the upcoming holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.

    A two hour time commitment (10:30 am until 12:30 pm) is asked for on the holiday or holidays the volunteer chooses.

    Meals can be picked up at St. Ambrose University, Davenport.

    Each volunteer will be assigned five to 10 homes in Scott County and will be given a specific route. Typically, 800 meals are delivered during this period. Volunteers can make deliveries once, twice or three times.

    Volunteers can make deliveries as individuals or work as a team.

    New Families On! Challenge Happening on Saturday

    There are over 2,000 registered to participate in the Families On! Challenge at Credit  Island this weekend and we still have the following volunteer needs.  Please CLICK HERE to volunteer on Saturday.  There are two volunteer shifts--from 8 am-12 pm and 12-4 pm.

    We have 10 Quad Cities CVB staff members assisting over the weekend!  We would like to challenge you to raise us 10!  Thank you so much in advance for your assistance.

    Help to add laughter, smiles, and a bit of a mess for families and friends, and leave with fun goodies and a t-shirt!
