31 Former MWL Players Shined in Cincinnati
The Midwest League was well-represented at the 2015 Major League Baseball All-Star Game in Cincinnati on Tuesday night. Thirty-one former Midwest League players participated in the Midsummer Classic at Great American Ballpark.
"Hopefully fans realize that not only do our clubs offer affordable, family-friendly fun, but also the chance to watch Major League Baseball's stars of tomorrow," Midwest League President Dick Nussbaum said. "Fans who come to our games can say they saw these guys here first before they came household names."
Among the 31 Midwest League alums were All-Star Game MVP Mike Trout of the Angels (Cedar Rapids, 2010) and Home Run Derby champion Todd Frazier of the Reds (Dayton, 2007-08).
Additionally, of the 49 players who played in Sunday's MLB Futures Game ? featuring the top prospects in Minor League Baseball ? 25 either have played or are currently playing in the Midwest League. Cubs prospect Kyle Schwarber (Kane County, 2014) won the Futures Game MVP award. All 16 Midwest League teams had at least one representative in the game.
