DES MOINES, IOWA (August 9, 2026) — Iowans can stride toward a healthier future by stepping back in time during the twelfth annual Iowa State Fair Historical Walking Tour that kicks off the Iowa State Fair Thursday, August 13. As the nation celebrates America's 250th birthday, this year's tour offers a meaningful opportunity to explore the rich history and traditions of one of Iowa's most beloved institutions.

State Historical Society of Iowa Announces 2026 Excellence in History Awards

DES MOINES, IOWA (June 3, 2026) — During the past year, historians, and historic preservationists continued to make contributions to the study and practice of Iowa history. To honor their efforts, the State Historical Society of Iowa has awarded the following individuals and organizations an Excellence in Iowa History Award, which recognizes outstanding publications, local history initiatives, and major achievements in Iowa history.
