FORT WAYNE, Ind. (December 29, 2014) - Pearce Eviston- who broke a 5-5 third period tie- Todd Fiddler and Mario Lamoureux scored two goals apiece as the Quad City Mallards (15-10-5) ripped off three unanswered goals in the third on the way to a wild 7-5 victory over the host Fort Wayne Komets (21-6-1) Monday night.

Eviston delivered the game winner by pouncing on a rebound just a minute and seven seconds after Fiddler broke in alone to even the score at five at 6:54 of the third.  Lamoureux's empty net goal finished off the Komets with just five seconds left in the contest.

The Komets took the lead into the third after Shawn Szydlowski cut into the slot and fired his second goal of the night into the top corner to put Fort Wayne on top 5-4 with just 1:39 left in the second period.  The Mallards had erased a 4-2 deficit with back-to-back goals from Joe Perry and Lamoureux in the second.  Perry's shot from the top of the left wing circle broke between Fort Wayne goaltender Roman Will's pads and narrowed the margin to a single goal at 14:29 of the middle frame.  Just over a minute and a half later Lamoureux jammed in the tying goal from the doorstep.

The Komets had seemingly taken control in the first period by roaring back with four straight goals after falling behind 2-0.  The Mallards were on the power play when Eviston opened the scoring from the left wing circle at 2:29 of the first.  Fiddler buried Evan Haney's centering pass to double the lead at 6:25, but that strike seemed to awaken the Komets, who responded just nine seconds later with Eric Faille's breakaway goal.  A mere 14 seconds after that, Gabriel Beaupre's long range drive tied the game.  At 14:42 Szydlowski swooped around a checker and snapped home the tie breaker from the slot.  Brett Perlini's one timer stretched the Komet lead to 4-2 a minute and two seconds later.

The Mallards earlier Monday signed Larkin Saalfrank as an emergency back-up goaltender.  Saalfrank, 23, played one game last season for the Komets.  The 6' 0", 185-pound Fort Wayne native arrived after Mallard goaltender Parker Milner signed a professional tryout agreement with the American Hockey League's Iowa Wild Monday.

The Mallards return to action Wednesday night on the road against the Evansville IceMen. The Mallards next play at home Friday evening at 7:05 p.m. against the Missouri Mavericks.  Friday also brings the return of $1 Dog/$1 Beer Night presented by 97X and MetroLINK.  Fans can enjoy $1 hot dogs and beers from iWireless Center concession stands during all Friday home games.  97X will follow in the spirit of the evening by presenting hot dog-themed intermission entertainment.

QUACK TRACKS
Road Trip
The Mallards went 3-3-0 on the six-game 13-day road trip they completed last Saturday.  The Mallards have won three of their last four away games after going 0-4-4 in their prior eight road tilts.

Back-to-Back
The Mallards last weekend won back-to-back games.  Last weekend's victories were the Mallards' first consecutive wins since they won three straight games on November 19, 21 and 22.

Stingy
After matching a team season high for goals against in last Wednesday's 5-2 loss at Allen, the Mallards equaled the club season low for goals allowed in last Friday's 3-1 win at Wichita and again in last Saturday's 4-1 victory at Tulsa.  The Mallards did not concede any even strength goal in either of last weekend's games.  The Mallards have surrendered three (non-shootout) goals or fewer in 12 of their last 13 games and now rank fourth in the ECHL in goals against per game (2.7).

Climb
By defeating the Thunder last Friday, the Mallards leapfrogged Wichita in the standings and moving into third place in the ECHL's Central Division.  The Mallards stayed a point ahead of the Thunder with last Saturday's victory in Tulsa.

Special Teams
The Mallards have allowed power play goals in each of their last five games.  They rank tenth in the ECHL in penalty killing (83.7).  The Mallards have gone 3-for-23 on the power play over their last five games and are now tied for eighteenth in the league on the man advantage (15.6 percent).

Super Mario
Mario Lamoureux is on a six-game point scoring streak and six-game assist streak (2-8-10) and is now tied for fifth in the ECHL in assists (18) and tied for tenth in points (25).  Lamoureux enjoyed his ninth multiple point game of the season and tied the team season high for points in a game by recording a goal and two assists in last Friday's 3-1 win at Wichita.  He either scored or assisted on six straight Mallard goals starting with an assist on the Mallards' second and final regulation goal in Quad City's 3-2 shootout win December 6 in Rapid City before setting up both of his club's goals last Wednesday's 5-2 loss at Allen and scoring the first goal and assisting on the Mallards' next two in last Friday's 3-1 win at Wichita.

Return
Kevin Baker has scored three goals- all on the power play- and picked up two assists in three games since returning to the lineup after missing three games with an upper body injury.

No Ordinary Joe
Joe Perry has scored six goals in his last 11 games and is tied for eighth in the ECHL goals (12).

Between the Pipes
Evan Mosher made 28 saves in last Saturday's win in Tulsa and now ranks third in the ECHL save percentage (.928), while Parker Milner, who ranks eighth in save percentage (.916), has won his last two starts.

Milestones
Darren McMilllan has played 296 games over six seasons with the Mallards and is on course to play his three hundredth game for the team next Monday at Missouri.  McMillan has recorded 194 career points...Jeff Lee has 95 career points.

Ins and Outs
Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel signed a professional tryout agreement with the American Hockey League's Iowa Wild Saturday and yesterday made his AHL debut in the Wild's loss to the Adirondack Flames...Antti Pusa last Saturday night in Tulsa notched an assist in his return from a three-game ECHL suspension...Paxton Leroux has served four games of his six game ECHL suspension and will be eligible to return to the lineup for the Mallards' game against Brampton on Sunday...Kevin Baker missed three games with and upper body injury before returning to action last Wednesday at Allen.

-### Quad City Mallards ### -

MOLINE, Ill. (August 27, 2014) - The Quad City Mallards will open their 66-game 2014-15 Central Hockey League season at home on Friday, October 24 at 7:05 p.m. against the Rapid City Rush and go on to play their first four games on home ice, the Mallards announced today in conjunction with the CHL.

The Mallards will play 25 of their 33 home games on fan friendly weekend dates.  The Flock will take the ice at the i wireless Center for ten Friday night games, ten Saturday evening tilts, five Sunday contests and eight Wednesday night outings.  Each of the Mallards' Sunday home games will face off at 4:05 p.m. while all other home games will start at 7:05 p.m.

"We are excited to offer so many weekend dates for our fans to attend games and to continue building up our rivalries with Brampton, Missouri and Rapid City," said Mallards president Bob McNamara.  "After winning a playoff series and reaching the semi-finals for the first time in over a decade last year, we're looking forward to the start of this season and the opportunity to build on that success."

The Mallards' home slate is weighted toward weekends from the outset.  The season opener is the first of two games in two nights between the Mallards and Rapid City at the i wireless Center.  Those two clashes will reunite the Mallards and Rush for the first time since the Mallards stoked the budding rivalry between the clubs by dramatically knocking off Rapid City in the opening round of last spring's President's Cup playoffs.

After their duo of duels with Rapid City, the Mallards will welcome the Brampton Beast to the Quad Cities for a pair of tilts.  The Mallards will host the Beast on Halloween- Friday, October 31- and Saturday, November 1.

The CHL will, for a third straight season, forgo a geographical split into conferences but still play an unbalanced schedule.  The Mallards will meet the Beast 16 times- more than they play any of their other five foes.  The season series between the two clubs will start with five consecutive meetings between October 31 and November 9.  The Mallards will travel to Brampton for a trio of games after hosting their first two match-ups with the Beast.

The Mallards' already strong rivalry with the Missouri Mavericks will only intensify over the course of 13 regular season clashes.  The Mallards and Mavs first renew acquaintances on Sunday, November 23 in Independence; Missouri travels to Moline for the first time six days later.

Similarly, the Mallards and Rush will no doubt crank up the heat on their rivalry during a dozen regular season meetings.  The Mallards will face the Wichita Thunder nine times and the Allen Americans and Tulsa Oilers eight times apiece.

The Mallards will meet two-time defending champion Allen for the first time since falling to the Americans in the seventh game of April's semi-finals on Sunday, November 16 at the Allen Event Center.  The Americans visit the Quad Cities for the first time on Friday, February 6.

The Mallards will begin December with six straight away games- their longest road trip of the season.  The Mallards travel to Missouri, Rapid City (for two games), Allen, Wichita and Tulsa between December 2 and December 13.

The Mallards kick off March with their longest homestand.  The Flock will play seven home games between March 1 and March 18, welcoming Missouri (three times), Allen (twice), Wichita and Tulsa to the Quad Cities.

Upon completing that home ice septet, the Mallards will play six of their final eight games on the road.  After playing their last home game on Wednesday, April 1 against Brampton, Coach Terry Ruskwowski's troops will close out the regular season with a two-game set in Rapid City Friday, April 3 and Saturday, April 4.

Other schedule highlights include :

  • The Mallards will endure their two busiest stretches of the campaign during the holiday season.  They will play seven games in 11 days between November 19 and November 29 before hitting the ice six times in eight days between December 27 and January 3.
  • The Mallards will play a total of 14 times in December, their busiest month of the season.  They will play 13 games in November, 12 in March, 11 in February, ten in January and three in both October and April.
  • The Mallards will play three games in three nights on two occasions: November 21, 22 and 23 and December 20, 21 and 22.
  • The Mallards will see ample holiday action beginning with their Halloween night tussle with Brampton.  While the Mallards will be idle on Thanksgiving itself, they will play three games in four nights over Thanksgiving week: Wednesday, November 26 at Wichita; Friday, November 28 at Tulsa; and Saturday, November 29 at home against Missouri.  The Mallards will close out 2014 north of the border.  The Flock will battle the Beast in Brampton on Wednesday afternoon, December 31.  Love is unlikely to be in the air when the Mallards collide with the Oilers in Tulsa on Valentine's Day- Saturday, February 14.  The Mallards will hope the joke is on the Beast when they host Brampton on April 1.
  • The Mallards' season series against Brampton, Rapid City and Tulsa will be evenly split between home and away games.  In contrast, the Mallards will play six homes and seven road games against Missouri; four homes games alongside five away tilts against Wichita; and five home games but only three on the road against Allen.

2014-15 Mallards season tickets are now on sale.  Ticket packages are available to meet almost any budget.  A limited edition season ticket holder Mallard jersey, 12 additional ticket vouchers per seat and free parking are among a host of exclusive benefits available to season ticket holders.  For more season ticket information fans can call the Mallards' business office at 309-277-1364.  Single game seats will go on sale in September on a date to be announced.

QUACK TRACKS
Last Week
The Mallards fell 7-1 to Wichita on the road last Friday.  Because of injury, illness and call-ups, the Mallards dressed just 14 skaters for what was their only outing in an 11-day stretch.

Skid

The Mallards have suffered back-to-back regulation losses and are winless (0-2-2) in their last four games.  The winless streak is the Mallards' longest since they dropped four straight games between December 1 and December 9, 2012.  The Mallards last went more than four games without victory when they went 0-5-1 over six International Hockey League games between January 15 and January 24, 2010.

Tight
The Mallards have dropped to seventh place, one point behind the sixth place Tulsa Oilers, who have played eight more games than the Mallards.

Playing the Percentages
The Mallards, who have played fewer games (32) than any other CHL club, have the league's fourth best winning percentage (.609).

Unlucky Seven
The Mallards last Friday gave up more goals than they have in any other game this season while also suffering their most lopsided defeat of the campaign.

Balance

While the Mallards rank in the top half of the league in goal scoring- fifth at 3.3 per game- no Mallard ranks in the top 25 in the CHL in point scoring.

On the Road
Last Friday's loss ended the Mallards' five game road winning streak.  That defeat was the Mallards' first away from home since they suffered a 5-2 setback December 20 in Tulsa.

Trouble at Home

The Mallards have gone without a win (0-2-2) in their last four home games- their longest home winless streak this year.

Drought

The Mallards have scored just once in their last two games and have produced just three goals in their last three games.

Debuts
Forward Justin Fox and goaltender Nick Niedert both made their Mallard debuts last Friday night.  Fox, who was leading the Southern Professional Hockey League in point scoring (16-24-40) when he joined the Mallards last week, started the campaign with the Huntsville Havoc.  Niedert, who last week signed with the Mallards from the Federal Hockey League's Danville Dashers for the second time this season, made eight saves and gave up two goals after replacing starter Ty Rimmer at the beginning of the third period last Friday.

Rolling
Gergo Nagy, who scored the Mallard goal last Friday, has 21 points (six goals and 15 assists) in his last 19 games.

Leaders
Mike Hellyer is tied for third in game winning goals (5)...Among rookies, Thomas Frazee ranks fourth in points (23), is tied for fourth in assists (15) and is tied for sixth in goals (8)...Thomas Heemskerk ranks second in goals against average (2.45) and save percentage (.920)

Milestones
Jim McKenzie has recorded 98 career assists...Darren McMillan has played 498 career games and collected 97 career CHL assists...Vladimir Nikiforov has played 297 career games.

Special Teams
The Mallards rank last in the CHL in power play efficiency (10.7 percent).  The Mallards have failed to score on their last 19 power plays, converted just one of their last 32, cashed in only 2 of their last 48 and scored on just three of their last 72.  The Mallards, who now rank seventh in penalty killing (82.4 percent), have given up six goals on their opponents' last 16 power plays over four games.  The Mallards rank third in the CHL in shorthanded goals (6).

Head to Head

The Mallards this week make their second and final trip to Brampton.  The Mallards, who have gone 5-1-2 against the Beast overall this season, swept three games at the Powerade Center in late December.  The Mallards and Beast will play the final two games of their 13-game season series at the iWireless Center February 28 and March 1.  Nagy (3-8-11) is the top point producer in the season series.

Ins and Outs
Defenseman Nicholas Rioux returned to the Mallards today after a five-game stint with the American Hockey League's Iowa Wild...Last Wednesday not only brought the Mallards' signing of Fox and Niedert but also saw Heemskerk sign a professional tryout agreement with the AHL's Worcester Sharks and forward Vladimir Nikiforov (upper body injury) go on seven day injured reserve retroactive to January 10...Nikiforov and defenseman Matt Duffy (illness) missed last Friday's game, leaving the Mallards with just nine forwards and five defensemen for that contest.
