Rock Island, IL: 100 years ago, Rock Islanders and other Quad City residents were joining the American Expeditionary Forces to fight what was popularly called the "War to End All Wars" - known now as World War I. More than 4 million Americans served  their country in the first World War, including women, African-Americans, Native Americans, and representatives of other minority groups.

Rock Island, IL: July brings more summer events designed to provide positive activities for kids and teens as part of the Rock Island Library's Reading by Design summer programming.

Rock Island, IL:  It hardly seems possible, but in just about a month, Rock Island and Milan five-year-olds will be heading off to a new adventure - Kindergarten! 

To help parents and future kindergarteners prepare for that new experience, the Rock Island Public Library will be offering "Ready, Set, Kindergarten" drop-in programs in the children's department on four Thursdays in July.

Moline/Rock Island, IL: A summer partnership from Metro will allow children to travel for free to summer reading programs at the Moline and Rock Island Public Libraries just by showing a valid library card.

Fun for Teens Follows Later that Same Day

Rock Island, IL: Kids and families can get a charge out of science with the free Absolute Science program at the Rock Island Public Library on Thursday, June 29. The all-ages learning event from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Downtown Library, 401 19th Street, mixes an interactive live program with an array of Creation Stations that let kids make and take awesome experiments.

Rock Island, IL: Fun and learning for teens gets creative with programs on cooking, making graphic novels, and tie-dye, all at the Rock Island Public Library. All events are free and open to the public. The library's Reading by Design theme celebrates creativity and making, with the following free events for ages 12 to 18:

Rock Island, IL: Rock Island Public Library locations at the Rock Island Downtown, 30/31 and Southwest Libraries will be closed Monday, May 29 in observance of Memorial Day. Locations reopen at 9 am for downtown and 30/31 locations, and noon at Southwest.

Rock Island, IL: Design yourself a great summer at the Rock Island Library's Build a Better Summer kickoff carnival on Saturday, June 10. The library's annual Summer Reading kickoff takes place in the parking lot of the Rock Island Library downtown, 401 19th Street, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.
