Pitcher makes Quad Cities only Class-A team with active representative both of last two seasons

DAVENPORT, Iowa (June 30, 2014) - Quad Cities River Bandits right-handed pitcher Michael Feliz has been added to World Team roster for the 2014 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, set for Sunday, July 13, at Target Field in Minneapolis. Feliz's selection makes the River Bandits are the only Class-A team in baseball to be represented by a current player in each of the last two All-Star Futures Games.

The Azua, Dominican Republic, native is replacing Chicago White Sox prospect Francellis Montas on the World Team roster. Feliz is one of two current Midwest Leaguers selected to the game, as he joins Burlington right-handed pitcher Alfonso Alcantara on the World Team.

The 21-year old Feliz was signed by the Houston Astros as a non-drafted free agent on May 19, 2010. He is currently 3-2 with a 3.64 ERA over 14 appearances, including 10 starts. Rated among the top prospects (No. 9 by Baseball America and No. 10 by MLB.com) in the Astros organization entering the season, Feliz has tossed 47 innings, allowing just 41 hits while walking 21 against 56 strikeouts. Opponents are batting .232 against him on the season. In his final five first-half appearances, the River Bandits' youngest pitcher was 2-0 with a 0.40 ERA, giving up only one earned run in 22 1/3 innings with one walk, 13 hits allowed and 27 strikeouts.

Former River Bandits shortstop Carlos Correa was selected to the initial World Roster for the All-Star Futures Game but will not compete due to injury.

St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Shelby Miller was the last River Bandit selected for the All-Star Futures Game while on the Quad Cities roster. Miller pitched for the U.S. in the 2010 game in Anaheim, Calif., and worked two-thirds of a scoreless inning in a 9-1 U.S. victory.

SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, which features the top Minor League prospects competing in a nine-inning contest as part of Taco Bell All-Star Sunday. The U.S. Team leads the all-time series, 9-6. ABOUT THE BANDITS: Having just been named Ballpark Digest's winner of Best Ballpark Improvement in America under $1 million, the River Bandits ownership recently made one of the biggest improvements to Modern Woodmen Park since the ballpark was first built back in 1931! A new Ferris wheel, standing 105 feet over the playing field, opened May 24, and Space Camp opened June 20. Soon to come is another new ride, this one called a "Drop and Twist." In 2013, the team unveiled a new 220-foot long dual zip line, a rock climbing wall, and a number of new bounce houses. Last season, the team's major league affiliate, the Houston Astros, saw all six of its affiliates reach the playoffs - the first time in a decade any MLB team can claim such success. The River Bandits were one of three affiliates to reach the championship round and one of two to win their league championship.

Peoria's Katz homers in both games as Bandits win 11-3 before falling 4-2 in finale

PEORIA, Ill. (June 29, 2014) - The Quad Cities River Bandits exploded in an 11-3 win in Sunday's first game of a doubleheader before falling flat in a 4-2 loss to the Peoria Chiefs in the finale at Dozer Park. Mason Katz drilled a solo home run in each contest for the Chiefs.

James Ramsay led off game one with a single off Peoria (7-3 second half, 44-35 overall) starter Luis Perdomo and stole second before Marc Wik walked. Perdomo struck out Brett Phillips and got Chase McDonald to bounce into a 1-3 fielder's choice, but then Jon Kemmer laced a double down the left field line to score both runners and put Quad Cities (5-5 second half, 40-39 overall) on the board at 2-0. Perdomo (0-1), who allowed six runs, five earned on six hits with four walks and six strikeouts in 4.2 innings, issued a walk to Tyler White and yielded a single to Ronnie Mitchell to bring in Kemmer. Brett Booth then ripped a single to left to plate White to make it 4-0 just before Mitchell was thrown out trying to go to third to end the inning.

Already up 5-1, Quad Cities was able to add to their lead in the fifth. With one out and a runner on second, Kemmer greeted Peoria reliever Robert Stock with a single to score Phillips. After White singled, Mitchell did the same to bring in Kemmer before Booth added another base hit to score White and make it 8-1. Kemmer went 2-for-4 with a career-high three RBIs, one of six Bandits to have multiple hits. White, Mitchell and Booth each finished 2-for-4 while driving in two. Every Quad Cities player in the lineup contributed at least one hit.

Chris Lee (3-5) earned the victory, allowing only a run on three hits without walking a batter in five innings. He struck out four before yielding to Houston Astros right-hander Anthony Bass, who allowed two unearned runs in two innings on two hits with three punchouts.

In game two, the River Bandits once again struck first, using a Jake Rodriguez single in the second off of Peoria starter Kevin Herget to take a 1-0 lead. With the score the same in the fourth, McDonald rocketed a line drive over the wall in left-center for his fifth home run of the season to give Quad Cities the 2-0 advantage.

Katz homered with one out in the bottom half of the fourth to cut the Quad Cities lead in half. The shot was the second baseman's 14th of the year, which ties him at the top of the Midwest League with South Bend's Daniel Palka.

In the fifth, Quad Cities starter Andrew Thurman gave up a leadoff double to Richy Pedroza, who advanced to third on a wild pitch. With the infield in, Thurman (4-5), who surrendered three runs on six hits with a walk and two strikeouts, got Michael Schulze to groundout to second to keep Pedroza at bay. However, the right-hander walked Vaughn Bryan, who stole second and forced the infield to come back. C.J. McElroy, Jr. then hit a groundball to second, which allowed Pedroza to come home to tie the game on the out. Bryan came home when Justin Ringo lined a base hit to center to give the Chiefs the lead they would not relinquish.

Jhnonny Peralta (2-0) earned the win for Peoria in relief, retiring nine of the 11 men he faced. He struck out three, walked one and allowed one hit.

From the third inning on, Kemmer, who was 2-for-2 with a walk in game two, was the only Bandit to reach second base. However, Herget picked him off to end the fourth.

The rubber game of the five-game series comes tomorrow with the River Bandits scheduled to start Jandel Gustave (5-3, 3.94 ERA) against Peoria's Rob Kaminsky (3-1, 1.47).

Editor's Note: Sunday's game was rained out. No word yet from the River Bandits as to when, or if, Anthony Bass will make his rehab start with the team.

Right-handed reliever will be second major leaguer in as many seasons to pitch rehab with River Bandits

DAVENPORT, Iowa. (June 21, 2014) - For a second consecutive season, the Houston Astros are sending a major league pitcher for a rehab assignment in the Quad Cities. Right-hander Anthony Bass is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with the River Bandits at Modern Woodmen Park Sunday.

Bass's rehab appearance is the first by a major leaguer for the River Bandits since Astros right-hander Josh Fields pitched a pair of two-inning scoreless outings May 10 and May 13 at Modern Woodmen Park during the 2013 season.

"Bringing major league rehabs to the Quad Cities has been a long time goal of the Bandits, and we are delighted to be getting our second MLB rehab in the past 14 months," said team owner Dave Heller. "Quad Cities fans deserve to be seeing major league talent in our beautiful ballpark, and we will continue to work to bring more major league players to this great community."

Bass, 26, is 1-0 with two saves and a 4.50 ERA in 15 appearances, totaling 18 innings, for Houston this season. When he was placed on the disabled list May 14 (backdated to May 11) with a right intercostal strain, Bass led the Astros with four holds, and he had allowed just a .239 opponent's batting average. Bass has made 90 career Major League appearances with San Diego (2011-13) and Houston (2014). He was acquired by the Astros from the Padres along with cash considerations for a player to be named later (left-hander Patrick Schuster) on Dec. 11, 2013.

Bass was born in Dearborn, Mich., and grew up in Trenton, Mich. He attended Wayne State University from 2006 to 2008, and San Diego drafted him in the fifth round of the June 2008 draft. He pitched in the Midwest League for the Fort Wayne TinCaps in 2009, when he was a mid-season All-Star and two-time league Pitcher of the Week before being called up to Class-A Advanced Lake Elsinore July 17 of that season. He made his major league debut June 13, 2011, with San Diego. In three seasons with the Padres, Bass was 4-8 with one save and a 4.08 ERA in 75 games, including 18 starts. He also struck out 135 batters in 187 1/3 total innings.

Quad Cities hits four home runs in a game for the first time since July 12, 2012

DAVENPORT, Iowa (June 15, 2014) - Tyler White smashed two home runs and Chase McDonald and Brian Holberton each added another as the River Bandits pounded the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 13-2 Sunday at Modern Woodmen Park.

Quad Cities hit four home runs in a game for the first time since July 12, 2012 at Lansing and for the first time at home since August 31, 2011 against Clinton.

With Quad Cities up 7-2, White led off the seventh with a home run onto the left field berm. Holberton followed with a double before Wisconsin reliever Harvey Martin got Thomas Lindauer and Jake Rodriguez to pop out and line out to short, respectively. However, Martin then yielded an RBI double to James Ramsay, who drove in two runs with a walk in a 3-for-5 day, to make it 9-2. Chan-Jong Moon walked and then Brett Phillips singled to left to plate Ramsay, making the score 10-2. Quad Cities batted around in the inning, scoring three runs on four hits while leaving the bases loaded.

As he did in the seventh, White led off the eighth with his second home run of the game. Again a Wisconsin reliever, this time Rodolfo Fernandez, got the next two batters before giving up a single to Rodriguez, a walk to Ramsey and a two-run double to Moon to make the score 13-2.

The River Bandits got the scoring going on McDonald's three-run shot way out to left-center in the first. The first baseman would finish 2-for-3 with two walks, one of six Bandits to accumulate multiple hits in the outing. All nine starters in the Quad Cities lineup reached base at least once.

Holberton's leadoff shot out to right in the third made the score 6-0 River Bandits. Holberton was one of three Bandits with three hits along with Ramsay and Rodriguez. Ramsay scored four runs in the game, becoming the first Quad Cities player to do so since Carlos Correa accomplished the feat on April 21, 2012.

Armed with a 6-0 lead, Michael Feliz (3-1) continued to rip through the Wisconsin lineup. The right-hander went five innings, only allowing two unearned runs on six hits. He didn't walk a batter and struck out four. Jandel Gustave worked the final four scoreless frames for Quad Cities to earn his first save of the season, scattering four hits with a walk and three punchouts.

Clint Terry (0-1) took the loss for Wisconsin, surrendering six runs on six hits with four walks and no strikeouts in just two innings. Wisconsin snapped their four-game winning streak to go to 36-33 and Quad Cities finished the first half of the season above .500 at 35-34.

UP NEXT: The River Bandits are home at 7 p.m. Thursday for Modern Woodmen Night and Pack the Truck Night benefiting the River Bend Food Bank. Peoria and Quad Cities trail Burlington by one game with six to play in race for first-half playoff berth

DAVENPORT, Iowa (June 9, 2014) - The Peoria Chiefs scored twice each in the first and second innings to build an early 4-0 lead, and they kept the Quad Cities River Bandits from ever bringing the tying run to bat in an 8-4 Chiefs win that tied the teams in the Western Division first-half standings in front of 4,063 at Modern Woodmen Park Monday night.

Quad Cities (33-30) suffered its first loss in Davenport in three weeks to split six first-half meetings with Peoria (33-30), and the teams are both one game behind Burlington (34-29) for second place with six games to play in the first half. Wisconsin (32-31) won its seventh straight game Monday to move within two games of the spot that will mean a playoff berth for the team holding it after games next Sunday.

Seeking to salvage the third and final game of the series, the Chiefs took a lead within the game's first two batters. Center fielder C.J. McElroy Jr., who reached base all five times at the plate, drew the first of five walks by River Bandits left-hander Chris Lee (2-4). Lee's wild pickoff throw toward first base sent McElroy to third, and he scored on a groundout by right fielder Vaughn Bryan. With two outs, catcher Carson Kelly singled to right field and scored on a double down the left-field line from first baseman Gerwuins Velazco.

In the second inning, Chiefs second baseman Richy Pedroza singled to right field, McElroy walked, and Bryan tripled home both runners for his game-high three RBIs and a 4-0 Chiefs lead. Lee then retired seven in a row before allowing his next hit.

The River Bandits reached the scoreboard in the third inning, when left fielder Ronnie Mitchell led off with his team-high ninth home run to right field off Chiefs right-hander Arturo Reyes (4-3). It was one of just two hits through the first six innings against Reyes.

The Chiefs added to the lead in the fifth inning, when Lee allowed two walks around an infield single to load the bases with no outs. Left-hander Albert Minnis entered to get Velazco to hit into a run-scoring double play and finished the inning with a 5-1 deficit. Lee was charged with five earned runs on six hits and five walks with no strikeouts in four innings. In the sixth inning, Minnis allowed a one-out single to Kenny Peoples Walls, who advanced to second base when Minnis was called for a balk. Quad Cities manager Omar Lopez argued the call and was ejected by base umpire Adrian Gonzalez, who called a second balk on Minnis to move Peoples-Walls to third base. Pedroza then hit an RBI single to make it 6-1. Minnis also allowed a seventh-inning RBI single by designated hitter Mason Katz.

Trailing 7-1, the River Bandits made noise against Reyes in the seventh inning, as All-Star right fielder Brett Phillips hit a leadoff triple, and third baseman Tyler White was hit by a pitch. Right-hander Zach Loraine entered to throw two wild pitches that scored Phillips and moved White to third base. White scored on a groundout, and doubles by first baseman Jon Kemmer and Mitchell cut the lead to 7-4.

Peoria added a run on three straight eighth-inning singles off right-hander Patrick Christensen. With an 8-4 lead, Loraine completed two innings, before former River Bandits right-hander Robert Stock - appearing at Modern Woodmen Park for the first time since he played four seasons with Quad Cities from 2009 to 2012 - pitched a scoreless ninth inning with a walk, strikeout and game-ending double play.

The River Bandits open a three-game series in Cedar Rapids at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday. River Bandits right-hander Jandel Gustave (5-3) is scheduled to face right-hander Aaron Slegers (5-2). Burlington visits Clinton, Peoria hosts Kane County, and Wisconsin hosts Beloit.
