DES MOINES – Today, Iowa Workforce Development announced that four local areas will receive the National Dislocated Worker Grant to assist 173 dislocated workers impacted by the flooding across Iowa in Spring 2019. The U.S. Department of Labor awards the grant to fund employment and training assistance as directed by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).

DES MOINES, IOWA (August 16, 2019) — Iowa’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased slightly to 2.5 percent in July. The state’s jobless rate was 2.4 percent one year ago. The U.S. unemployment rate remained at 3.7 percent in July.

DES MOINES, IOWA (July 29, 2019) — On July 12, 2019, Iowa Workforce Development started to monitor stories about the closing of Lakeville Motor Express Trucking (LME) from multiple media outlets. Iowa Workforce Development immediately began an investigation on the day the business closed its doors, July 12, 2019, as it had not received a WARN notice, as required. That investigation is ongoing pursuant to Iowa Code §84C.

DES MOINES, IOWA (July 25, 2019) — Governor Kim Reynolds is encouraging Iowans eligible for the Last-Dollar Scholarship to apply for the program by the August 1 deadline. The Future Ready Iowa Last-Dollar Scholarship is available to new high-school graduates and adult learners who enroll in a scholarship-eligible program. The $13 million scholarship program covers tuition for credentials up to a two-year degree in programs leading to a high-demand job.

DES MOINES, IOWA (July 22, 2019) — Today, the Iowa Division of Workers’ Compensation launched a web-based filing-system for attorneys, workers, employers, and insurers. The new Workers’ Compensation Electronic System (WCES) will allow the Division to transition from paper filing to electronic filing.

DES MOINES, IOWA (June 27, 20190 — Iowa Workforce Development partnered with state and local agencies to develop the new Iowa Disability Benefits Network. The website provides information for recipients of Social Security disability benefits, their families, and professionals supporting people with disabilities.

DES MOINES, IOWA (June 12, 2019) — Governor Kim Reynolds is encouraging applications for Future Ready Iowa (FRI) Employer Innovation Fund grants that will expand opportunities for Iowans to have rewarding careers and help employers hire the skilled workers they need. Eligible applicants include employers, employer consortiums, and community organizations. The application process opens on June 21. Applications will be due August 1.

DES MOINES, IOWA (June 3, 2019) — Today, Iowa Workforce Development launched the new IowaWORKS online employment-services system across the state. The IowaWORKS site provides a variety of employment resources, tools, and services to meet the needs of customers, employers, and staff-members.
