PATE NAMES TRANSITION DIRECTOR

(Cedar Rapids, IA) - Iowa Secretary of State-elect Paul D. Pate announced Mark H. Snell will guide his transition effort and lead his new administration.

Mark Snell was named as Chairman of the transition team and designated by Secretary - elect Pate as his new administration's Chief of Staff.

Snell, 53, is a longtime Iowa community leader serving as chief executive for several chambers of commerce and non-profit organizations in Clear Lake, Ames and Des Moines.  He also served as vice president of the Ames Board of Education and gubernatorial appointments director for Governor Branstad.

"Iowans expect us to move forward with our transition plans showing that we will be prepared to continue delivering quality services to Iowa businesses and citizens," Pate said.  "Mark is an experienced leader who will assist me in building a dedicated team to maintain the integrity of our election processes and modernization of business services."

BRAD ANDERSON BOUGHT BY OUTSIDE INTERESTS

(Cedar Rapids, IA)  Today, former Iowa Secretary of State and Mayor of Cedar Rapids, Paul D. Pate called attention to the dramatic disparity between where he and his opponent get their financial support.

"Mr. Anderson's campaign is bought and paid for by liberal out of state interests who oppose a voter ID requirement.  Of his contributors, 66% of them do not reside in the state of Iowa where voters overwhelmingly support a common sense voter ID requirement as I do," Pate said.

In the latest financial disclosure period, the Anderson for Iowa committee reported 3,942 contributors with 2,587 of them having out of state addresses.  Not included in that total is the $400,000 in negative attack ads on television paid for by the Democrat PAC iVote which is based in Washington, DC.

Pate, "The integrity of Iowa's elections process should not be put at risk by out of state special interests.  Over 95% of my campaign's financial contributors are from Iowa voters and not from outside interests who want to control Iowa's elections for partisan political reasons."

A nationally recognized business leader by the Small Business Administration, Pate is the owner of a paving construction firm and recently served as Mayor of Cedar Rapids from 2002 -2006.  While Mayor, Pate was elected President of the non-partisan Iowa League of Cities representing over 870 municipalities.  Previously, he served as Iowa Secretary of State from 1995-1999 and represented NE Cedar Rapids, Marion and parts of Linn, Buchanan and Delaware Counties in the Iowa Senate from 1989-1995.

Pate is a lifelong Iowa resident, born in Ottumwa, growing up in Linn County.

PATE'S PLAN PROTECTS AND STRENGTHENS ELECTIONS

(Cedar Rapids) Today, former Iowa Secretary of State and Mayor of Cedar Rapids, Paul D. Pate has released a statement on how his plan protects and strengthens Iowa's elections.

"Protecting Iowan's is a top priority.  As a former State Senator I lead legislation to toughen penalties for stalking victims in Iowa.  I have first-hand experience as a former Senator, Mayor and Secretary of State working with our state legislature.  As Iowa's next Secretary of State I will make it a priority to join the other 35 states in initiatives like the Safe at Home program to provide security and access to services for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, trafficking or stalking," said Pate.

Pate, "Just as Safe at Home offers participants an additional safeguard to their protection we must also protect the integrity of all Iowans' votes with a Voter ID safeguard.   Both of these important safeguards need to be approached in a bi-partisan manner. I have proven experience to help secure passage and implementation of these initiatives."

PATE ANNOUNCES TECHNOLOGY PLAN TO SIMPLIFY MILITARY VOTING

TURNS A 60 DAY PROCESS INTO 5 MINUTES

 

 

(Cedar Rapids, IA)  Today, former Iowa Secretary of State and Mayor of Cedar Rapids, Paul D. Pate released his plan to use technology to make it easier for those serving in the military to vote.

 

"I am committed to ensuring those who defend our freedoms have every viable option to participate in our elections."   My goal is to make Iowa one of the top states in military voting by pursuing state of art technology which allow overseas military voters to turn a 60-day process into less than a 5 minute transaction," stated Pate.

 

Pate unveiled today he will pursue funding sources from the Department of Defense to implement innovative technology like South Dakota's military voting program.  The Department of Defense office of Federal Voting Assistance previously made grants available to help fund improved technology.

 

By combining advanced technology and using the security of the Common Access Card (CAC) issued by the Department of Defense for validation, military absentee voting will be secure and simplified for military voters to register to vote, request and receive an absentee ballot and mark an absentee ballot within a few minutes.  The absentee ballot is then printed and returned to the local county auditor for counting.  This new technology significantly reduces paperwork required by our military personnel and substantially shortens the process while increasing security.  The Common Access Card issued by the Department of Defense which verifies and authenticates the identity of the military voter is the key component

 

Pate shared, "I believe, if new technology is available that allow our military personnel secure an easy access to voting we should honor them with our efforts to make this possible.  Currently, as a result of diligent efforts put forth by our local county auditors and the Secretary of State's office, Iowa is recognized as an "All Star" state by the Military Voter Protection Project."

Pate after exceeding the necessary petition signature requirement by 100% while submitting over 2000 in 60 days, continues to build momentum by announcing that he has over $55,000 cash on hand from over a hundred donors in just a few short months.

"I'm overwhelmed by the continuing rapid growth of support Iowans are showing for this campaign.  It is clear they do not want nor can they afford to have Iowa's chief elections commissioner be a partisan political operative from either party.  I have served the people of Iowa as Secretary of State and hold the proven experience to be that non-partisan leader they desire," stated Pate.
