Le Claire, Iowa, June 4, 2014 - You can almost taste summer with Mississippi River Distilling Company's latest seasonal release, Pride of the Wapsi Strawberry Vodka.  You can grab your bottle this Friday, June 6, at First Friday at the LeClaire distillery from 5:30-8:00 p.m.  This is a limited release of this popular summer seasonal with only 1,000 bottles available for distribution.  In an effort to get this awesome summer spirit in people's hands earlier, the gang at MRDC made extra last year and saved it back for this year in order to release it earlier.

First Friday will also feature a new series of cocktail glasses.  The first series of pint glasses was such a big hit, so this time a set of four cocktail glasses with classic whiskey quotes on them is being offered.  It's called the "Whiskey Wit" collection.  For every bottle of spirits purchased Friday night, you'll receive a free cocktail glass with a quote from Johnny Carson, "Happiness is having a rare steak, a bottle of whiskey, and a dog to eat the rare steak."  A new glass will be released at each First Friday with quotes from W.C. Fields and Compton McKenzie coming in July and August.  There are just a few of the May glasses left if you want to play catch up.  Realizing that not everyone can make every First Friday, extra glasses have been ordered that will be available for sale for $10 each in the distillery store after First Friday.  These will also be available online for ordering while supplies last starting on Friday.

There will also be some great summer themed cocktails to sample in the tasting room including a strawberry mojito with the new strawberry vodka and a strawberry bourbon lemonade cocktail!  In the kitchen, Chef Steph is featuring a spicy Cody Road Bourbon grilling sauce and a strawberry vodka rhubarb dessert sauce.

Coming up on June 27, MRDC will release the next new seasonal spirit, Big Peach Liqueur.  The official release will be at the July First Friday on Friday, July 4.

Mississippi River Distilling Company is open from 10 AM to 5 PM Monday through Saturday and from 12 to 5 PM Sundays.  Free tours are offered to the public daily on the hour from 12 to 4 PM or by appointment.  The tour takes visitors through the entire distilling process.  Tours end in the Grand Tasting Room with free samples of products for those patrons over 21 years of age.

Le Claire, Iowa, September 30, 2013 - Mississippi River Distilling Company is welcoming the flavors of fall back with their release of Iowa Coffee Company Liqueur on October 4, 2013.  This is the third year for this popular fall seasonal spirit.

Iowa Coffee Company Liqueur is another great collaboration between two Iowa businesses.  MRDC takes hand roasted Peruvian blend coffee beans from Iowa Coffee Company, a Des Moines area small business, and infuses it into River Pilot Vodka.  Along the process, fresh cinnamon sticks and vanilla beans are added.  This has become a great fall tradition enjoyed around the state!

MRDC welcomes everyone to come out this Friday, October 4, from 5:30-8:00 p.m. for First Friday and a taste of this great spirit and much more!  While supplies last, everyone who purchases a bottle of MRDC spirits will receive a free coffee mug that says, "Move over coffee.  This is a job for alcohol."  The cocktails featured in the tasting room include Cider and Rye, which uses Cody Road Rye Whiskey, apple cider, a splash of fresh squeezed lemon juice, maple syrup and a dash of sage.  This recipe also works great with either River Pilot Vodka or River Baron Artisan Spirit.  The second cocktail, the Java Pumpkin, showcases Iowa Coffee Company liqueur.  It's a combination of Iowa Coffee Company Liqueur, River Pilot Vodka, pumpkin liqueur, milk and a dash of nutmeg.  Chef Steph will be handing out samples of coffee marinated steak and coffee latte cake, both made with Iowa Coffee Company Liqueur.

The rest of Le Claire will be busy too with wine samples and live music at Wide River Winery, live music at Faithful Pilot, booze cake at Razzleberries, red velvet cupcakes at Aunt Hattie's, along with other shops staying open late.

Le Claire, Iowa, October 29, 2012 - Mississippi River Distilling Company is excited to announce the arrival of their new Cody Road Rye Whiskey along with the first large scale release of Cody Road Bourbon Whiskey.

Cody Road Rye is handmade from 100% local rye purchased from Dave and Jim Wherry in Fulton, Illinois. This whiskey is a unique spirit that showcases the wonderful spiciness of rye, a one-of-a-kind grain, along with the delicate fruitiness that is often lost in rye whiskies.

"It all started a little over a year ago when we first released our Windmill Rye Whiskey as a seasonal product," says Ryan Burchett, owner and distiller.  "People went crazy for it and really appreciated tasting a full rye whiskey.  We decided this needed to be a staple and went into production right away.  The big difference is this whiskey has twice the age on it."

Cody Road Rye is distilled at a higher proof than is typical so it is a nice, clean smooth whiskey with the ful spiciness that rye is known for.  "The spice warms up your mouth, but the clean spirit goes down your throat smooth, which makes it perfect for Manhattans!"  Burchett says.

Along with the arrival of the new rye whiskey, fans should also be excited to know that the highly sought after Cody Road Bourbon should be easier to find now.  "In the past year, we've released about 5,000 bottles of whiskey total.  We'll release over 17,000 bottles in the next 8 weeks alone.  We'll be carrying that increased production into 2013.  So fans should be able to get their hands on our whiskies a little easier now."

The name comes from William "Buffalo Bill" Cody, who was born in LeClaire and was regarded as a regular purveyor of whiskey.  Legend has it that rye whiskey was his spirit of choice.

Ryan and his brother Garrett Burchett have been cranking out production on this whiskey so it will be easier to find around the state of Iowa and surrounding states.  They plan to release over 1,000 bottles each week, with still more full barrels in storage for aging purposes.  This will make a great holiday gift for any whiskey lover on your list!

The distillery opens at 10 AM on Friday, Nov. 2 with the first bottles of the whiskey available then.  Retailers around Iowa, Illinois and surrounding states will also have the whiskies for sale.

To get a free taste of this new spirit, join us Friday, November 2 from 5:30-8:00 p.m. to celebrate at MRDC's First Friday Feature.  There will be specialty cocktails prepared for the evening as well as some light appetizers.
