Humility of Mary Housing, Inc. is celebrating 22 years of service to the Quad Cities with a New Orleans style Jazz Brunch at Crow Valley Golf Club on Sunday, September 23, 2012, from 11am to 2pm. Sarah Marie Young, a Chicago vocalist, will once again be the featured entertainer and she will be accompanied by a pianist and a string bass player. Sarah Marie was awarded first place in the international Montreux Jazz Voice Competition in Switzerland last year.

This year we are adding an auction featuring an opportunity for you and your friends to have lunch with either Sam Allen, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Deere and Company, or Joan Lescinski, CSJ, PhD., President of St. Ambose University.

Humility of Mary Housing, Inc. (HMHI) has provided supportive housing for 711 single parents and their 1391 children during these past 22 years. These families were homeless at the time they entered the program. HMHI provides single parents with the tools and support to complete degrees, find jobs, and move into their own homes. Children learn there is a different way to live; some have become the first in their family to complete high school and go on to college. Over 400 applications from single parent families, including nearly 600 children, are received each year and yet HMHI has space and staff to provide services to only 47 of these families at any one time.

Please join us in our celebration and support this valuable community asset.

Humility of Mary Housing is hosting a family night of activities at the Family Museum in Bettendorf, Saturday, June 9, 5 - 8 pm. The traveling exhibit "Building Brainstorm" is the center of attraction for the evening. Children and adults, together, can explore what it is like to be an architect, designer and engineer in this imaginative exhibit. They can use the information from the exhibit and their own creative talents to plan a dream home or a dog house, build a skyscraper model, find the best arrangement of an apartment model's rooms and furniture, construct a structure they can crawl through, and much more.

The cost is $5 per person, which includes admission to the Family Museum and its many other exhibits, food and entertainment. The funds raised at this event will help support the continued work of Humility of Mary Housing for single parent families in our community who have experienced homelessness. For more information please call 563-326-1330.

We hear of growing numbers of homeless children and children living in poverty.  These stories are not just about other countries and other communities; they include our own Quad City community.  Humility of Mary Housing is working to reduce some of those statistics.  In their 21 years 684 families including 1349 children have been served. Every day, except when an apartment is being prepared for a new family, HMHI is serving 47 single parents and approximately 100 children. A caring and generous Quad City community has made it possible for HMHI to continue serving the needs of these families.
