DES MOINES, IOWA (June 21, 2023) — State Auditor Rob Sand has released a statement on his decision to vote no to using nearly $175,000 of tax-payers’ money to settle two lawsuits filed against Governor Kim Reynolds and her administration for violating open-records laws.

“These insiders have no shame. They abuse your rights, and then want to use your money to pay for having abused you,” said Auditor Sand. “I will not go along with this disgusting abuse of power.”

DES MOINES, IOWA (June 2, 2023) — State Auditor Rob Sand today responded to Governor Kim Reynolds signing Senate File 478. The bill lets state agencies and the Governor work together to hide documents from the auditor and eliminates checks and balances by killing Iowa courts’ ability to review such decisions.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA (May 26, 2023) — State Auditor Rob Sand accompanied Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and a bi-partisan group of elected officials on a Thursday, May 25 tour of a large-scale modernization project at the Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids. DES MOINES, IOWA (May 25, 2023) — Auditor of State Rob Sand has released a report on a special investigation of the City of Eldridge located in Scott County. The special investigation was requested by City officials as a result of concerns regarding certain financial transactions processed by the former City Clerk, Denise Benson, and covered the period January 1, 2017 through October 31, 2022.

DES MOINES, IOWA (April 6, 2023) — State Auditor Rob Sand today urged leaders in Iowa’s rural communities to apply for funding from the Energy Improvements in Rural or Remote Areas (ERA) program. The program is designed to provide financial investment, technical assistance, and other resources to advance clean energy in communities with fewer than 10,000 people.

DES MOINES, IOWA (March 6, 2023) — State Auditor Rob Sand announced today that he will vote against tax-payer funds being used to pay half of a discrimination lawsuit against the University of Iowa Athletic Department during Director Gary Barta’s tenure, unless Barta is no longer employed by the Department. If approved by the State Appeal Board, the settlement would cost Iowa tax-payers $2 million dollars.

DES MOINES, IOWA (December 5, 2022) — State Auditor Rob Sand today issued an advisory alerting Iowans to a potential phone scam in which the caller identifies themselves as a representative of the Iowa Auditor of State Office (AOS).

A concerned citizen notified the AOS Office on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, that they had received a phone call from a person inquiring about their mortgage. The caller also stated that they knew the concerned citizen’s name, address, and height.
