The smooth stylings of 1960s teen idol Paul Anka are back with Rock Swings, a new album of cover songs aimed at younger ears. Recently reaching number one on the German pop-album charts, this domestic issue on Verve Records features some hard-to-imagine interpretations, with his take on Billy Idol's "Eyes Without a Face" and Van Halen's "Jump. " More strange mojo is brewed in his spin on Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun," Oasis' "Wonderwall," and The Cure's "Lovecats." Not one to shy from romance, things get low and slow with his groove of Spandau Ballet's "True," Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven," and Lionel Ritchie's "Hello."

· Next week Cleopatra Music's Deadline label is releasing a four-CD box-set companion to the celebrated book on the Sunset Strip scene, Hollywood Rocks. With more than five hours of hair-metal splendor, the album features acts that broke out to the big time, such as Warrant, Poison, L.A. Guns, Great White, and Faster Pussycat, but the real meat is in all the lost bands of the day, from Hollywood Rose, Jetboy, and the Electric Angels to Black Cherry, Motorcycle Boy, and Hellion. If you can make it to Los Angeles on June 22, The Key Club is celebrating the release with a slew of acts and special guests.

· Timed nicely with the return of HBO's phenomenal series Six Feet Under, this Tuesday the Astralwerks Records imprint releases a new soundtrack collection of music titled Everything Ends: Volume Two. Opening with Nina Simone's classic "Feelin' Good," the CD features Coldplay, Radiohead, Death Cab For Cutie, and an exclusive track by Jem. Three songs were recorded specifically for the television series by The Arcade Fire, Interpol, and the Caesars - who turn in a cool cover of Blue Oyster Cult's fitting "(Dont Fear) The Reaper."
