· With a vibe that recalls the historic Live Aid concerts, last November's benefit concert in Cape Town, South Africa, for AIDS-related social work is getting the royal treatment this Tuesday by Warner International and Rhino Records. The concert, 46664, was named for Nelson Mandela's prison identification number. The four-and-a-half-hour show is broken down into three CDs, with the subtitles African Prayer, Long Walk to Freedom, and Amandla, and is also available as a single DVD. The list of performers is staggering, with Peter Gabriel, Queen, Bono and the Edge from U2, The Corrs, Eurythmics, Bob Geldof of the Boomtown Rats, Paul Oakenfold, Beyoncé, Jimmy Cliff, Anastasia, and international superstar Zucchero, all putting their hearts into the project. Each disc has its own spine-tingling moments, from new originals such as "American Prayer," written by Bono and Eurythmics' Dave Stewart, the Amampondo Drummers performing alongside Anastasia and Queen on "We Will Rock You," and the duet "Wild World" by Gabriel and Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens). Another new song, "46664 (Long Walk to Freedom)," was written by the late Joe Strummer, Bono, and Stewart and is performed here with Youssou N'Dour and Abdel Wright. Mandela himself is featured participating on "Invisible Hope" with Queen. Cover fanatics will find a few smiles with two cool tributes: Geldof's take on Elvis Costello's "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, & Understanding," and Bono and the Edge morphing their own "One" into "Unchained Melody."

· Grab your old Fashion, Telex, and O.M.D. records and let's get this party started right! If you come dressed in a yellow Devo suit or in 1980s body-poppin' Adidas style, you've found nirvana in my pick of the week: Crosstown Rebels Presents Rebel Futurism, a mix CD from Damian Lazarus, dance-floor DJ extraordinaire and keeper of the funk. The Crosstown Rebels imprint releases this percolating gem this coming Tuesday, surfing the cardiovascular pulse of upbeat hypnotics in hug-drug waves. Under the clap of 2004 electro beats, this 19-track compilation shows affection for the first electronic dance pioneers, fitting in nicely on the shelf with vintage Laurie Anderson and My Daughter's Wedding grooves. Check out Le Dust Sucker's "Mandate My Ass" and see if it doesn't bring back memories of David Byrne's and Brian Eno's cosmic "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts" collage. Other highlights include Kiki & Silversurfer's "Shake" with Captain Comatose and Dave Clarke's "Disgraceland" featuring Chicks on Speed and its spoken-word rant on consumerism and genre branding.

· Music Video Distributors has teamed up with two indie record labels for new DVDs of early-1990s alternative rock, stacked with rare video clips and cult artists such as Savage Republic, Bongwater, Surgery, and Crime & The City Solution. Atavistic Records presents its 12 O'Clock High, Volumes 1 & 2, on a single DVD, boasting the Afghan Whigs' "You are My Flower," Mudhoney's "This Gift," and The Flaming Lips' "Unconsciously Screaming" and "Redneck School of Technology." The Amphetamine Reptile label serves up the first three volumes of its Dope Guns ... VHS series on one DVD, featuring a nifty foldout poster and more than 30 clips from Helios Creed, The Melvins, Halo of Flies, Tar, and Boss Hog. Thirteen more bonus videos are squeezed in, from Unsane, Chokebore, and Servotron.

· A DVD partnership with Creem magazine brings a nice new collection of 15 videos from Sweet this Tuesday, under the title of Glitz, Blitz, & Hitz. A nice documentary on the 1970s glam rockers features original 16-millimeter footage and interviews with band members and management.
