· This Tuesday brings a highly anticipated DVD from The Clash, hot on the heels of the band's recent 40-track Essentials series CD. Simply titled The Essential Clash DVD, the Epic Records release features 11 live and studio videos, interview footage from U. K. television's London Weekly Show, and the film trailer for Clash on Broadway. Most interesting is the inclusion of "Hell W10," a rare silent short film written and directed by the late Joe Strummer in 1983. Now paired with music, the black-and-white film features Strummer and other members of the band as gangsters involved in drugs.

· Other spectacular DVD-format debuts are due throughout the summer, including The Ramones' Around the World collection, Simon & Garfunkel's Concert in Central Park, and the ultimate guilty pleasure: the 1978 film Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, with Alice Cooper, Aerosmith, Peter Frampton, the Bee Gees, and Earth, Wind & Fire.

· At the end of this month the Universal imprint is releasing Roger Waters' production of The Wall Live in Berlin 1990 on DVD. From the Potsdarner Platz, located on top of Hitler's bunker and only eight months previously the Berlin Wall, the historic concert stands literally larger than life, with its monstrous stage and guests Sinead O'Connor, Bryan Adams, Cyndi Lauper, Van Morrison, The Scorpions, and Joni Mitchell. The format upgrade is stellar, featuring 5.1-channel surround sound, a new 30-minute documentary, set design, Gerald Scarfe's wild animation sequences, and rare unused footage of actor Rupert Everett as Pink.

· Also worth looking for is last week's DVD upgrade of Queen's Live at Wembley Stadium from 1986, now featuring eight songs not found on the VHS issue and bonus backstage interviews and documentary footage.
