· Lock up your children! Al Jourgensen is back with a new incarnation of his Revolting Cocks side project, a crazy runaway locomotive loaded with a wild who's who of guest stars. Released this coming Tuesday on his artist-controlled imprint, 13th Planet Records, Cocked & Loaded kicks off with "Fire Engine," a long-lost song written with Iggy Pop in the early 1980s.
Manic, swirling, and perpetually tweaking under the itchy Texas sun, Jourgensen has hammered out the insanity with three of the greatest vocalists in brutality, the Dead Kennedys' Jello Biafra, the Skatenigs' Phildo Owen, and (oh yes!) the Butthole Surfers' Gibby Haynes. And big guitars? How about Cheap Trick's Rick Nielsen and ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons? One cover makes the set, a blistering take on Bauhaus' "Dark Entries," also found melting minds on the Saw II soundtrack.
· Shout Factory Records' new remix tribute to Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass, Whipped Cream & Other Delights Re-Whipped, takes a sexy new spin on the original 1965 classic, with all 12 original tracks re-grooved by a host of modern spin doctors, from Mocean Worker and Anthony Marinelli to DJ Foosh and Medeski Martin & Wood. Rather than just letting these producer-mixers loose with the master tapes, Alpert proves he's still kicking it, with new trumpet solos for each fresh interpretation. Due in stores next week, highlights include Dust Brother John King's nibble on "A Taste of Honey" and Thievery Corporation's sunny stroll through "Lemon Tree."
