· I wish I were a fly on the studio wall as plentiful guest stars dominate a handful of new and upcoming releases. The Dwarves' upcoming CD on Sympathy for the Record Industry, Dwarves Must Die, features the original Space Ghost, Gary Owens, alongside guests Nash Kato of Urge Overkill, Dexter Holland of The Offspring, Nick Oliveri of Queens of the Stone Age, Vandals drummer Josh Freese, and rapper San Quinn. ... This Tuesday the Expression Records imprint releases 6PM, the new album from Roxy Music guitarist Phil Manzanera, reuniting him with founding members Brian Eno, Paul Thompson, and Andy Mackay. Original Roxy Music vocalist Bryan Ferry is the only one missing in action, but three famous friends show up as guest artists: Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour, The Soft Machine's Robert Wyatt, and The Pretenders' Chrissie Hynde.

· Taking the mellow approach is the upcoming solo album from David Pack, former vocalist for Ambrosia. Guests on his Peak Records release next month include Steve Perry of Journey, Ann Wilson of Heart, Dewey Bunnell of America, Timothy B. Schmidt of The Eagles, and soul crooner James Ingram.

· Next month reggae legend Jimmy Cliff releases his new Black Magic set on the Artemis label, featuring one of the late Joe Strummer's last recording sessions, as well as special guests Annie Lennox, Jools Holland of Squeeze, and Kool & The Gang.

· Also due next month is Capitol Records' re-issue of 2002's Your Love Means Everything by Faultline, now expanded with three new tracks, including a cover of The Rolling Stones' "Wild Horses" with guest vocalist Joseph Arthur. Other guests that dot the CD include Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozd of the Flaming Lips, Michael Stipe of R.E.M., and former Verve guitarist Nick McCabe.

· Speaking of the Flaming Lips, look for the imaginative trio to contribute a new song to the upcoming Spongebob Squarepants feature film, as well as offering a cover selection for this fall's tribute to the eclectic lo-fi "outsider" artist Daniel Johnson. The tribute album, entitled Discovered Covered, will also feature contributions from Beck, Tom Waits, Bright Eyes, Mercury Rev, Death Cab for Cutie, TV on the Radio, Gordon Gano of the Violent Femmes, and more. Executive producer Marc Linkous of Sparklehorse has crafted the Gammon Records CD as a benefit project, supporting Johnson's struggle against bi-polar disorder. The two-CD set is the perfect introduction to Johnson's free-flowing pop innocence, as one disc will feature these cover interpretations with the other disc showcasing Johnson's original versions.

· Other benefit tributes are in line, as next week Or Music releases the highly anticipated Por Vida CD, helping to aid Alejandro Escovedo in his battle with Hepatitis C. Contributors run deep on the two-CD set, with Whiskeytown, Cowboy Junkies, Son Volt, Jackson Browne, Los Lobos, The Jayhawks, Peter Case, Ian Hunter, Los Lonely Boys, Caitlin Cary, Jennifer Warnes, the Mekons' John Langford and Sally Timms, Lenny Kaye, John Cale, and more.

· Celebrating the 10th anniversary of RAINN (the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network), a new benefit CD, For the Next X, will hit store shelves next week. Featuring live tracks from Tori Amos, Indigo Girls, Dar Williams, Michelle Branch, and matchbox twenty, the disc raises funds for the networks' National Sexual Assault Hotline.

· Dreamy minimalists Low are honored with their own three-CD box set this Tuesday, featuring a bonus DVD of 11 videos and three documentaries. Entitled A Lifetime of Temporary Relief, the collection features 10 years of B sides, demos, outtakes, and rarities. Highlights on the Chairkickers Records release include the band's original bedroom recordings from 1993.
