· American Music Club founder Mark Eitzel is mad for covers this Tuesday as his new solo album, Courage & Confidence, is chock full of interesting interpretations by the somber bard. Ten oddly selected songs make up the New West Records release, including his pensive take on Curtis Mayfield's "Move on Up," The Flamingos' "I Only Have Eyes for You," Andrea True Connection's "More, More, More," Anne Murray's "Snowbird," Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine," and - dig this - Culture Club's "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?" · Both Robert Plant and Dolly Parton have announced that they too will be dipping into the strange cover waters, with Plant's upcoming album featuring his take on the Jimi Hendrix classic "Hey Joe" (itself a cover), Tim Buckley's "Song of the Siren," and the track "Morning Due," previously recorded by Tim Hardin and Jeff Beck. The CD, Head First, is due in July and promises an amazing backup band made up of former Cure guitarist Porl Johnson, Portishead keyboardist John Baggot, and Roni Size drummer Clive Dreamer. More mind-bending might be Parton's upcoming Halos & Horns album on the Blue Eye/Sugar Hill imprint, which features her interpretation of Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" and Bread's pensive hit "If."

· Two separate tribute albums saluting The Ramones are slated to be released next month. The punk Radical Records label has announced that its Ramones Forever collection will feature artists from America as well as Belgium, Germany, France, Greece, Peru, and Hungary, all bowing down to the Forest Hills, New York, cartoon punks in styles ranging from ska to electronic to lounge to lo-fi. The set will benefit the Joey Ramone fund at the Cornell Medical Center in New York City. Also on the horizon is DV8/Columbia Records' yet-unnamed tribute album, featuring big stars such as Smashing Pumpkins founder Billy Corgan, Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder, Static X, Motorhead, Rob Zombie, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rancid, The Offspring, and Marilyn Manson (covering "Blitzkrieg Bop" with guitarist Johnny Ramone).
