· With the first dates only a month away, it's not too early to make plans to attend this summer's Lollapalooza tour. Celebrating its ninth year, the festival run by Perry Farrell has a new twist for the wandering tribe, as each city stop will be a two-day affair, showcasing twice the stars and up-and-coming acts. The alternative musical circus sets out July 15 at the White River Amphitheatre near Seattle, Washington, and forges its freak-flag swath through late August, wrapping up in Dallas, Texas. Headliners include the Flaming Lips, The String Cheese Incident, Morrissey, Modest Mouse, Sonic Youth, Gomez, and TV on the Radio. Other headliners popping up on various dates include the Pixies, PJ Harvey, Wilco, Basement Jaxx, and Michael Franti & Spearhead. The tour showcases a terrific list of talent on its special solar-powered sound stage, featuring Mike Watt & The Secondmen, Wheat, The Dresden Dolls, Bumblebeez 81, Ross Golan & Molehead, and more. DJ Alex Graham and Farrell himself (under the moniker of Peretz) will also man the turntables under the solar stage, and late-night rave-oriented grooves are promised in the Night Bloom tent. Special political speakers will opine on the state of the union as part of the activist-charged Revolution Solution program, designed to drive youth participation in solving world issues. Roving Guerilla Theater is also planned, with a mass game called MindField capturing my imagination. No organized overnight camping arrangements have yet been announced, but I'm hoping for some of that mellow after-hours vibe that makes the three-day Bonnaroo Festival so enjoyable. Will attendees come together and share a grilled cheese or falafel around the Coleman stove, or will asshole antics in the dark rival Woodstock 1999? Find all the tour info as it sneaks out at (http://www.lollapalooza.com), and I'll see you in the pit.
