· The most anticipated box set in memory is due this Tuesday, unfortunately now a posthumous release because of the sad passing of the Man in Black. The Johnny Cash five-CD set, entitled Unearthed, features 64 previously unreleased songs recorded with producer Rick Rubin, who had a special knack for drawing out Cash's most haunting and beautiful work in his later years. Stripped-down and acoustic, the collection promises a 104-page book, interviews, and covers of Neil Young's "Pocahontas" and "Heart of Gold." Other highlights include duets with Joe Strummer on Bob Marley's "Redemption Song" and with Fiona Apple on Cat Steven's "Father & Son." Rubin is also working on Cash's final studio album, which will feature his take on Larry Gatlin's "Help Me."

· This coming Tuesday DJ Keoki grabs hold of classic tracks from all genres and whips them up into a nonstop dance frenzy on his new Kill the DJ mix CD. The Hypnotic Records release is a wild ride through strobe-light club land as he blends ecstasy-laced versions of tracks including Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb," Bauhaus' "Bela Lugosi's Dead," and Kiss' "I Was Made for Loving You" into sweaty, sexy abandon. Highlights include Nova's swirling take on Duran Duran's "Planet Earth," Effcee's peppy, robotic spin on The Cult's "She Sells Sancuary," and Fear Cult's frenzied attack of Blur's "Girls & Boys."

· Speaking of Blur, fans of the band (and the Gorillaz) can dig a little deeper into the mind of founder Damon Albarn this week by hunting down an import-only rarity. His own Honest Jon's Records label is issuing a limited-edition double ten-inch-vinyl-only set entitled Democrazy. Calling it the "lowest lo-fi record ever," Albarn shares 14 demos recorded in various hotel rooms during Blur's last American tour. ... Another import-only treat comes from Screaming Trees vocalist Mark Lanegan, with his new EP entitled Here Comes That Weird Chill (Methamphetamine Blues, Extracts, & Oddities). As a teaser for his upcoming Bubblegum album, the set features a cover of Captain Beefheart's "Clear Spot" and a new track co-written with Josh Homme and Nick Oliveri of Queens Of the Stone Age. Lots of guests dot the EP, including Greg Dulli of the Afghan Whigs, Chris Goss of Masters of Reality, and Dean Ween of Ween.
