• Two new CD projects are raising funds to promote peace. Last week a re-make of the 1960s hit "Wake Up Everybody" by Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes was released as a single, featuring an all-star line-up of Faith Evans, Missy Elliott, Jamie Foxx, Jaheim, and Nate Dogg. A full-length CD is due next month with this new version as its title track, benefiting the voter-registration organization America Coming Together. Featuring contributions from Lenny Kravitz, Jurassic 5, The Roots, and Emmylou Harris, the disc also includes Yoko Ono's newly recorded Orange Factory re-mix of "Give Peace a Chance 2004," featuring new post-9/11 lyrics, Ben Jelen's take on "Talkin' 'Bout a Revolution" by Tracy Chapman, and Everclear's spin on the classic "This Land Is Your Land."

• After receiving more than 500 submissions, The Peace Not War Music Project has selected the tracks that will make up Peace Not War Volume 2, due the first week in October, and is soon to launch all 500 songs on its Web site's "Peace Jukebox." Protest songs from Ani DiFranco, Sonic Youth, Spearhead, Jane's Addiction, Lyrics Born & Lateef, Le Tigre, and Lifesavas head the two-CD set.

• Master musicianship rules next month as three "super groups" release new CDs. Born at 2002's Bonnaroo Festival, Primus founder Les Claypool's new foursome features players from two other "P" bands - Bernie Worrell of Parliament and Buckethead and Brain of Praxis. Calling themselves Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains, the group's debut album, The Big Eyeball in the Sky, is set for release on Prawn Song/Red Ink Records.

• The Tone Center Records imprint is the place to indulge six-string fetishes with its upcoming A Guitar Supreme: Giant Steps in Fusion Guitar. Featuring Eric Johnson, Greg Howe, Mike Stern, Larry Coryell, and Frank Gambale, this new project interprets saxophone compositions by John Coltrane into jazz-fusion guitar workouts.

• The power trio Jelly Jam promises more riff-a-holic adventures with next month's sophomore release, simply entitled 2, on the Inside Out Records label. Made up of Ty Tabor of King's X, Rod Morgenstein of The Dixie Dregs, and John Myung of Dream Theater, the new album continues the bond originated as members of Platypus.
