· This Tuesday brings the two-DVD version of The Concert for New York City, recorded October 20 with more than five hours of footage capturing all the night's performances and special presenters not found in the recently issued CD version. The Columbia Records release also boasts short films by Martin Scorsese, Woody Allen, Spike Lee, Jerry Seinfeld, Ric Burns, and Kevin Smith, shown that evening to an audience that included more than 6,000 firefighters, police officers, and rescue workers. The musical lineup is an amazing collection of stars recorded live at Madison Square Garden with David Bowie, Bon Jovi, Jay-Z, the Goo Goo Dolls, Billy Joel, Destiny's Child, Eric Clapton & Buddy Guy, The Who, Mick Jagger & Keith Richards, James Taylor, John Mellencamp, Elton John, and Paul McCartney. Net proceeds from the sale of this DVD will benefit the Robin Hood Relief Fund.

· The indie Vagrant Records label has announced the signing of Replacements founder Paul Westerberg and the release of his first solo album in three years later this spring.

· The Butthole Surfers want you to come out and play with them on their upcoming Australia-only import CD single for the track "Dracula from Houston." The enhanced disc features a CD-ROM game sure to be full of acid-dripping dementia.

· Trash-culture enthusiasts will most certainly recognize the name of Herschell Gordon Lewis as the 1960s' exploitation-film king with drive-in classics such as Blood Feast, She Devil on Wheels, and 2,000 Maniacs. This past week, the Birdman Records label issued a fantastic 37-track collection of music from these crazed plasma-fests of juvenile delinquency titled affectionately The Eyeball Popping Sounds of Herschell Gordon Lewis. Dubbed the "godfather of gore" by director John Waters, the collection also features rare radio spots and examples of the ridiculously demented dialogue than characterized his films.
