This coming Tuesday brings the DVD release of Bodysong, the award-winning documentary film featuring an epic, ambient soundtrack by Jonny Greenwood, the multi-instrumental genius of Radiohead. Produced in 2002 and winning numerous awards last year as it toured in limited release in art-house theatres, this powerful collection of slow-motion images weaves a silent journey through the life experience we all share, as our cells emerge, bond, and multiply, until their failure in ultimate death.
The visuals were culled from a century of international film stock - home movies, newsreels, and microscopic internal layers of the human body revealed in scientific wonderment - and Greenwood's musical score floats in the buoyant rush of firefly-like sperm, digestive tracts, churning blood, and spiritual metempsychosis. Sometimes disturbing in its sober depiction of birth, adolescence, sexual awakening, and final destruction in old age, murder, fascism, and war, the hypnotic torrent of images is a must-see and a must-hear. Lakeshore Records offers up the original motion picture soundtrack to The Cave, with music by Ill Nino, It Dies Today, Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, and more. Three new songs from Incubus are featured in Epic's release of Stealth, including a new duet with Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders on "Neither of Us Can See." A new Flaming Lips song, "Mr. Ambulance Driver," makes the New Line Records soundtrack to Wedding Crashers a hot pick, also featuring a rare Jimmy Eat World track "(Splash) Turn Twist." Also on deck is Astralwerks' reissue of the 1987 soundtrack to Walker, with music written for the film by Joe Strummer of The Clash, composed during his "lost years" in Nicaragua, and Danny Elfman's new score for Charlie & the Chocolate Factory on the Warner Sunset label.
