· Two fantastic new albums from sons of the surf have me lost in their music and cool waves. Formerly the frontman for sonic surf demons 40 Watt Domain, Andrew Heilprin has a new solo moniker - Blue-Eyed Son - and his West of Lincoln album on Eenie Meenie Records. Mellow like his home ground of Venice Beach, California, the album is a cool-buzz stroll on the beach, full of catchy acoustic hooks and clever lyrics, like on "When I Come Home," as he stands stunned on the driveway, his clothes thrown out all around him. Bob Dylan alert: Fans will catch a cool cover of "I Threw It All Away" inside. Also eternally lost in the tide is Donavon Frankenreiter and his new self-titled debut CD on the Brushfire imprint, the boutique label owned by surfer-songwriter extraordinaire Jack Johnson - who recorded and produced the album in Hawaii, as well as adding his vocals and signature guitar, bass, and ukulele to the mix. Brushfire "family member" G. Love shows up and sparks one up on the sand as well, contributing harmonica, vocals, and guitar. Frankenreiter is quite the romantic, channeling the soulful vibe of Sam Cooke, as well as Mishka, Momma Stud, and other lazy-day lovers. Highly recommended. Look for Frankenreiter later this summer at the Bonnaroo festival in Tennessee.

· Speaking of Bonnaroo, my pick for next week is another pensive moment from a solitary man, six-string in hand. Warren Haynes might not have meant for his performance at last year's festival to become a CD, but this 16-song set is a real gem in the troubadour tradition, as his soft strumming and soulful voice hush the crowd of 80,000 under his spell. On the artist-friendly ATO Records, Live at Bonnaroo stirs up the ruminative side of the Gov't Mule founder and Allman Brothers alum, featuring a dozen originals, including an ode to Jerry Garcia. Haynes' masterful licks really shine on a handful of interesting covers: U2's "One," Radiohead's "Lucky," The Grateful Dead's "Stella Blue," and Otis Redding's "I've Got Dreams to Remember."

· For the 10th anniversary of Reality Bites, the movie's soundtrack is being re-issued next week by BMG Heritage with eight bonus tracks. The bonus tracks include a new song from Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories - her acoustic version of "Stay (I Missed You)" - and all the other songs from the film that didn't make the original soundtrack.
