· Christmas comes early this year for fans of Iggy Pop & The Stooges, as Bomp Records re-issues a funky 10-inch-vinyl slab of rare chaos and bliss this week and the Virgin label releases a new solo album in September. The colored-vinyl Bomp re-issue collects Kill City tracks from 1977 and the rare "gospel-tinged jam" of Jesus Loves the Stooges. Original "dead donkey" cover art is also restored, complete with 3D glasses. Pop's upcoming new solo album, Skull Ring, features a cool list of guest stars from Sum 41, Green Day, and former Stooges bandmates Ron and Scott Asheton.
· While VH1 celebrates the 1970s this week, one of that decade's most unusual icons is seeing his musical project from more than 30 years ago brought back to life in the CD era. Known for his spoon-bending feats and other paranormal mental powers, Uri Geller's self-titled album is a spooky kitsch gem, re-issued next week by the United States of Distribution imprint. Imagine William Shatner's "vocal" delivery with a lisping Swedish accent - this is certainly the stuff to bend cutlery and more! Backed by vocalist Maxine Nightingale and acclaimed American pianist Byron Janis, the closing track offers a guide to unleashing your own spoon-bending finesse. Also released this week on CD are five spoken-word albums by Geller, with titles including Mind Potential, Words of Courage & Inspiration, and Healing with the Power of Your Mind. Now if I could only find my car keys.
