• The "ignorance is bliss" mentality of SpongeBob SquarePants turned the freckle-cheeked barnacle into the prince of the Nickelodeon television network, but in two weeks he graduates to the big time with his own feature-length motion picture. The chipper little spiv gets help from a gushing fellowship of superstar fans on the soundtrack, with his theme song performed by Avril Lavigne, Motorhead's "You Better Swim," and Wilco's "Just a Kid." Due in stores this coming Tuesday, the Sire Records CD, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie: Music from the Movie & More, features the long-anticipated release of the Flaming Lips' contribution, "SpongeBob & Patrick Confront the Psychic Wall of Energy," and other new tracks by Mike Simpson of The Dust Brothers, Ween, Plus Tech Squeezebox, and Prince Paul with The Waikikis. Not enough for you to feel the love? SpongeBob and his pal Patrick the starfish both step up to the mic for two numbers - "The Best Day Ever" and "Under My Rock." Crabby patties, indeed.

• In other film news, next week Inside Out Records is releasing a stunning new hypnotic score from Kevin Moore of Dream Theater, calling himself Chroma Key on this unique labor-of-love project. Entitled Graveyard Mountain Home, the CD accompanies a "lost" school-guidance film, of the type shown to the 1950s and 1960s generations of innocence as lessons in morals, manners, and citizenship. Moore discovered the film in the public-domain archives in all its ragged, fuzzy, time-aged beauty and fell in love with the sad tale of a boy who tries to repair a radio to speak with his dead mother. Slowing the film to half speed and creating a new, personal soundtrack, the result is pure magic. A special edition of the disc comes with a bonus DVD of the film and music together, and a Quicktime version of the film is contained on each CD.
