· Two successful rock entities have jumped fences to their own greener pastures, each with an artist-owned label and upcoming CD. Serj Tankian has created a more personal home for his new Serart side project, a collaboration with multi-instrumentalist Arto Tunboyaciyan, using his clout as the frontman of the System of a Down juggernaut to establish his own Serjical Strike Records imprint. Percussionist Tunboyaciyan met Tankian during System of a Down's Toxicity sessions, and his avant-garde folk leanings promise interesting directions for the duo, with Middle Eastern melodies, electronica, and poetry. The disc features nifty DVD material, with Sun Angle Calculator, a 14-minute short film of experimental collage by director Matthew Amato. Look for Serart's self-titled album to hit store shelves May 20. Also releasing its next effort on its own is Brooklyn's Dust to Dust, with the Sick CD due June 3 bearing founder Rob Traynor's own Psyclone Records label. The new album features special guest Kenny Hickey of Type O Negative.

· The Track Records label has just issued a trifecta of long-lost gems from the glory days of post-punk: all three albums by The Lords of the New Church from the early 1980s. By far the snottiest among its peers, the band reveled in its outlaw image and supergroup pedigree, with Brian James of The Damned, Dave Tregunna of Sham 69, Nicky Turner of The Barracudas, and lead singer Stiv Bators, formerly fronting the legendary Dead Boys. Available for the first time on CD, these albums contain bonus tracks, including material from the film Texas Chainsaw Massacre II. Full of black-leather gangland cool, gothic overtones, and Bators' snarl and antics, the band's short rule was a highlight of the era and well worth seeking out.
