It's
a relatively calm week at Daytrotter headquarters this week, but the
few things that are happening are exciting.
The highlight of the week will be the valiant return of the Dodos to the Quad Cities and to our studio. They were last here during the first week of September, headlining a show that included Mondo Drag, Radio Moscow, and Jennifer Gentle (from Italy) at East Moline's Mixtapes. It was a great and well-attended show, and we shared 40s together in the alleyway. That was the second time that the Dodos - now one of America's indie-rock sensations, with the incredible new full-length Visiter having already sold more than 10,000 copies this year - had recorded here with us, and we've just seen them get brighter and brighter. Without question, they are one of the most exhilarating live acts on the planet, and they wrote and recorded one of the finest albums of the year. We currently have a video up on Daytrotter.com of them performing at Hollywood's Amoeba Records store, and drummer Logan Kroeber is wearing a Ross' T-shirt that he bought the last time he was in town - likely after downing a Magic Mountain.
Also returning for that show - this Thursday, July 10, at 8 p.m. at Huckleberry's Pizza Parlor - is Suzannah Johannes, who opened a show this winter that was headlined by Dri. She'll be solo this time, but her incredibly sad and beautiful folk songs are more than a treat.
We're also recording The Lonelyhearts (another opener for this show), Dr. Manhattan, and The Gay Blades this week before a monstrous week that will bring a number of Pitchfork performers to town for sessions. We will keep you informed. See you Thursday.
