Daytrotter Another busy week is in store for us here in between and during the thunderstorms and tornado warnings. Once again, the offer stands for anyone who wants to buy merchandise - CDs, vinyl, T-shirts - from any of the bands recording with us who aren't playing a show in town to write (daytrotter@gmail.com), and we'll make an arrangement for you to meet up with the group. They'll be more than happy to do so.

We had the band Weinland and Nik Freitas perform at Huckleberry's Pizza Parlor on Saturday night. While the crowd was lean, it was the best-sounding show we've had to date and encouraging for all of the upcoming performances. A new PA system is offering us a lot more flexibility.

Tonight, June 11, will be the show of the year so far, with Tim Fite and DJ Leisure coming to town. Fite's new record, Fair Ain't Fair on Anti-, is one of the best albums released this year. He was the most unbelievable thing we saw at SXSW this spring. His mix of hip-hop, soul, folk, and country is without peer. Chrash will open the evening at 7 p.m.

Friday the 13th brings our first try at presenting a smaller-scaled show at The Capitol Theatre. It will feature two Daytrotter alums - the bluegrass duo Drakkar Sauna (think the Louvin Brothers with more murder ballads) and the Botticellis (The Beach Boys during the Pet Sounds days) - along with Driver of the Year and Eyes. We hope that you will all come out and let us know that you'll support more of these. There will be limited-edition posters and Daytrotter T-shirts given free as incentives. The show begins at 7 p.m.

On June 15, we have White Hinterland, Casey Dienel's new band, playing at Huckleberry's. She was previously here in the spring of 2006, playing in the basement of Quiet Bear/Daytrotter illustrator Johnnie Cluney's Davenport home, along with Rosalee Motor Revival. Dienel's beautiful piano playing is not to be missed - reminiscent of Regina Spektor and Nellie McKay.

We're announcing today that Amos Lee - who opened last fall's Bob Dylan and Elvis Costello tour - will be playing Huckleberry's Pizza Parlor June 27 for an intimate performance. Tickets should go fast, so we'll be offering those and tickets to the June 30 Justin Townes Earle (Steve Earle's son) show in advance. You can get them by going to Huckleberry's during business hours or writing to the e-mail address above. Lee tickets will be $12 in advance and $15 at the door; Townes Earle tickets will be $8 in advance and $10 at the door.

Recording this week are The Lonely H, The Peekers, Snowblink, Dan Goldman, Tim Fite, Adam Green, The Botticellis, The Explorer's Club, Annuals, Drakkar Sauna, The Delicious, White Hinterland, Wye Oak, Pontiak, and Jaymay.
