(Cedar Rapids, IA) – From January 12, 2017 through March 31, 2017, the African American Museum of Iowa will present the display “They Said This Day Would Never Come” in their lobby to commemorate the end of Barack Obama's presidency. This small display will feature campaign materials and other memorabilia.

Nine years ago, 37.6% of Democratic caucus participants in Iowa rallied behind a young senator from Illinois. Eight years ago, the nation's first African American president was sworn into office. This year, he leaves it. “The timing of this display corresponds to the anniversaries of President Obama’s inaugurations and acts to commemorate the end of his presidency. It will also highlight Iowa’s role as the nation’s first caucus state and its impact on this historic presidency,” said Brianna Kim, the African American Museum of Iowa‘s Curator.

This display is free-of-charge and not available for guided tours.
