November 5, 2017 - Bettendort, IA– OVER 400 SURVIVORS LAST YEAR! Hard to believe it has been 29 years and the tradition continues to thrive. Governor’s Infamous European Cross Country Run, co-sponsored by Running Wild and the Cornbelt Running Club will be held this Sunday, November 5, 2017, 1:00PM at Scott County Park. Participants from previous years continue to return and confirm how exciting and different this event is from all other local runs. Weather forecasters are predicting nice fall weather with temperatures in the mid 60’s and sunshine. (A great day for a stroll in the woods!) A good sense of humor is helpful, if not necessary during the friendly competition. A 2-mile course was added several years ago for those looking for a less challenging activity. The short course has been designed to provide fun without all the rigors of the longer course, which is always at least 4 miles, but never more than 7. Assistance has once again been obtained from the Grim Reaper (who is still hanging around from Halloween) in the design of the longer course. Numerous obstacles, both natural and manmade, are scattered throughout.
Prize ribbons will be placed throughout both courses to ensure that nearly all participants go home with a prize. A large gift certificate awaits the lucky runner(s) who locate and return to the finish line an unusual and out of place object from the course (never an easy task). Trophies and gift certificates from Running Wild will be given to the 1st overall finisher and 1st male and female classifications. In addition to the many already great prizes provided by Cornbelt Running Club, Running Wild and Governor’s, we have decided to offer a cash donation to area schools for Most Participants, Furthest Travelled, and Craziest Team. This year also marks the 12th anniversary for our “Law Enforcement Competition” and the Moline Police Department will be back to defend their title.
Registration fee is only $22.00 and includes a post race party with free soft drinks, cider, and cold beer for the survivors. Hot sandwiches, chili, and other goodies will be available for purchase. Colorful 29th anniversary long sleeve, tech-fabric, t-shirts proving participation are now available for purchase with registration at www.govsrun.com and will also be available for sales at the race. All proceeds go the the Cornbelt Running Club Nancy Kapheim Memorial College Athletic Scholarship Fund. To avoid the crowds, pre-registration is available online at ww.govsrun.com.
