BETTENDORF, IOWA (February 7, 2019) — Gilda’s Club of the Quad Cities is teaming up with Ascentra Credit Union to Stick it to Cancer. How? They are joining the Quad City Storm for their Hockey Fights Cancer game on Saturday, February 9 against archrivals, The Peoria Rivermen.

When the Quad City Storm, known as the team that gives back, offered Ascentra the opportunity to sponsor this special game, the credit union knew it was the right call. With many of their members, families, and even their own staff facing the challenges of cancer themselves, the credit union saw this as the perfect opportunity to raise awareness and give back to a local charity.

Ascentra selected Gilda’s Club of the Quad Cities as their charity of choice.  Funds raised at the game will benefit the non-profit including a cancer ribbon jersey auction, Chuck-a-Puck sales, and more.

“Gilda’s Club is an instrumental organization in providing the programs and support to all who are touched by cancer,” said Ascentra Public Relations Specialist Megan Guldenpfennig. “We’ve partnered with Gilda’s in the past and knew they would be the perfect fit.”

Leading up to the game, the Ascentra staff is rallying together to support the cause. If you walk into any of Ascentra’s branches, you will find their staff sporting colorful “Stick’n it to Cancer” t-shirts. These special shirts were offered to their employees by the credit union as an opportunity to donate to Gilda’s Club. Those who made a donation could feature a name on the backs of the shirts “In Honor Of” or “In Memory Of” someone who they know has fought cancer.

“We’re proud to support this noble event and how it brings so many people together, reminding us that you don’t have to fight cancer alone,” said Ascentra President and CEO Dale Owen.

On Saturday, Feb. 9, the Hockey Fights Cancer game will start at 7:10PM at the TaxSlayer Center, 1201 River Dr., Moline, Illinois, 61265. The night will feature multicolored sunglasses at the door for the first 1,000 fans, custom Ascentra Stick’n it to Cancer jersey koozies and more. The credit union will also be running a special promotion for those in attendance to raise additional funds for Gilda’s Club.

At the end of the night, the grand total will be revealed and announced for all to celebrate. To purchase tickets, go to fevo.me/gildas or visit the TaxSlayer Center box office during operating hours.
