Three errors costly in 13-inning loss to Timber Rattlers
GRAND CHUTE, Wisc. - Three errors and two unearned runs proved too much for the Quad Cities River Bandits to overcome in a 3-2 loss to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in 13 innings Wednesday night at Fox Cities Stadium. Kevin Hill did not allow a hit in 3.2 innings of relief to keep the Bandits in the game while Wander Franco had a pair of hits and an RBI in the loss. Gilbert Lara had the game-winning hit with the bases loaded in the 13th inning to leave the Bandits standing.
The River Bandits (4-3, 41-34) tied the game when Franco singled home a run in the eighth inning. Ronnie Dawson was hit by a pitch to lead off the 11th and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch one pitch after stealing third, but in the home alf the third Bandit error of the day allowed an unearned run to score to tied the game.
Dustin Hunt (0-6) stranded the bases loaded in the 12th but couldn't repeat the feat in the 13th, giving up the Lara single to end the night. Daniel Brown (3-1) got the win for 4.1 innings of relief. Forrest Whitley took no decision for Quad Cities, striking out six in 5.1 innings of work, allowing one unearned run.
That run scored when Demi Orimoloye stole third then scored when the throw skipped into left field. The first two Timber Rattlers (3-4, 29-46) runs were unearned in the one-run game. The Bandits had been 3-0 in games decided by one run in the second half of the season before Wednesday. The game was the longest for Quad Cities this season both in innings (13) and time of game (4:17) plus play began after a 40-minute weather delay that does not factor into the total TOG.
