Offense stays hot in 7-2 win over Burlington

BURLINGTON, Iowa – The Bandits offense stayed hot on Wednesday afternoon at Community Field in a 7-2 win over the Bees to finish off a three-game sweep. Spencer Johnson hit a solo home run as part of a three RBI day to lead the Quad Cities bats. Ryan Hartman pitched six innings and allowed just one run and six hits to pick up the win.

Quad Cities (7-6) started the scoring in the first on an RBI double by Stephen Wrenn. The Bandits were beneficiaries of back-to-back walks to start the fourth and both base runners materialized into runs on a Johnson two-bagger. The next batter, Chuckie Robinson, drove in Johnson with a single to make it 4-0. Burlington (5-7) got a solo round tripper from Jordan Serena in the fifth, but Marcos Almonte cranked a two-run homer to left in the sixth to make it 6-1 Bandits. Johnson’s solo home run in the eighth added another Bandits run that was neutralized in the ninth on a solo home run by the Bees' Brennan Morgan.

Hartman (1-0) out-dueled Bees starter Sam Pastrone (0-3) who was pulled after the fourth after issuing four earned runs and seven hits. Erasmo Pinales relieved Hartman out of the Bandits’ pen and pitched three innings and only allowed one run and two hits.

The River Bandits now return to Modern Woodmen Park for a seven-game homestand beginning Thursday night. Clinton comes to town for a 6:35 p.m first pitch on Thirst-Day Thursday. Bandits RHP Carson Larue (0-0, 0.90) faces off against Lumberkings’ starter LHP Tim Viehoff (0-0, 2.70).
