Javier deals, Bandits force game three Friday
DAVENPORT, Iowa -- The Quad Cities River Bandits drew even in the first round of the Midwest League playoffs with a 4-1 win over the Peoria Chiefs Thursday night at Modern Woodmen Park. Cristian Javier dealt six strong innings to lead the Bandits to victory while Chuckie Robinson homered in the win. The River Bandits forced a winner-take-all game three Friday night with the winner advancing to face the Cedar Rapids Kernels in the Western Division finals.
The Bandits (1-1, 79-59) got six strong innings from Javier (1-0), who allowed one run on three hits with one walk with six strikeouts. Colin Moran, who went 3-for-3 as a Major League rehabber, gave the Bandits the lead in the third with a single before Stefan Trosclair tied the game for Peoria (1-1, 69-70) with a solo homer in the fourth - the only run allowed by Javier in the game. The Bandits regained the lead in the fifth on a double by Marcos Almonte. Chas McCormick then added a run with a sac fly in the inning before Robinson led off the sixth with his homer to round out the scoring. Robinson had been hit-less in the post-season before the big fly that traveled an estimated 386 feet.
The teams face off in a decisive game three Friday night at Modern Woodmen Park. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. CDT with post-game fireworks presented by Smart Toyota. Patrick Sandoval gets the start for the Bandits against Anthony Shew for the Chiefs. The game will be available on air on 1170 AM K-BOB, riverbandits.com and the TuneIn app, simulcast on MiLB.TV.
