Patrick Sandoval hurls six innings in game two shutout win in Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Quad Cities River Bandits are one win away from the 2017 Midwest League Championship after a 5-0 win over the Fort Wayne TinCaps Thursday night at Parkview Field. The Bandits won both road games and have a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series with three chances to win one game at home to clinch the championship. Patrick Sandoval hurled six shutout innings to get his second win of the playoffs while five different Bandits drove in runs to help the offensive cause.

Quad Cities (6-2, 79-59) got on the board in the first inning with an Abraham Toro single that drove home Colin Moran on a close play at the plate. Two insurance runs scored in the sixth on singles from Chas McCormick and Troy Sieber. A Moran single plated another run in the eighth before a double from JJ Matijevic drove home another insurance run in the ninth.

Sandoval (2-0) scattered six hits over six-plus innings on the mound, walking one and striking out a pair of TinCaps (4-3, 68-72) in the win. Fort Wayne nearly scored in the fourth, but Jorge Ona was tagged out at home trying to score from first on a double from Gabriel Arias to end the inning on a brilliant relay from Josh Rojas through Toro to Chuckie Robinson. Salvador Montano pitched the final three innings to cap off the shutout and earn his second save of the playoffs. TinCaps starter Lake Bachar (0-1) allowed one run in 3.1 innings to suffer the loss in his first post-season appearance.

The Midwest League Championship Series shifts to Modern Woodmen Park for as many of the final three games as necessary to crown a champion. The Bandits need one win to earn the seventh title in franchise history. Quad Cities' starter is still to be determined. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. CDT with gates opening one hour prior. There will be fireworks after the game and the first 500 fans in the gates will get rally towels. For tickets, call (563) 324-3000, visit riverbandits.com or stop by the box office at Modern Woodmen Park. The game will also be available live with Jake Levy on the broadcast on 1170 AM K-BOB, riverbandits.com and the TuneIn app, simulcast on MiLB.TV.
