Scheetz earns win in debut

DAVENPORT, Iowa – The River Bandits snapped a three-game losing streak by defeating the Peoria Chiefs 4-1 on Monday night at Modern Woodmen Park. Kit Scheetz earned his first Midwest League win. Luis Payano homered for the second second straight game.

Daz Cameron singled in the first inning to drive in a run, giving the Bandits (32-18, 69-49) a 1-0 lead. Peoria (27-23, 57-62) tied the score on Kramer Robertson’s RBI single in the third. Back-to-back-to-back hits in the fourth helped the Bandits regain the lead, 3-1, capped by Marcos Almonte’s two-RBI double. Payano’s solo homer in the sixth padded the lead to 4-1 Bandits.

Scheetz (1-0) tossed six innings, allowed one run, five hits, struck out two and walked one. Lucas Williams hurled two scoreless innings of relief. Devon Carr struck out the side in order in the ninth to earn his second save. Ian Oxnevad took the loss. Oxnevad (3-10) lasted four innings allowed three runs – two earned – on five hits.

Game two of the four-game series is Tuesday night at 6:35 p.m. RHP Cristian Javier (1-0, 3.00) toes the rubber for the Bandits. Jake Levy and Connor Onion have coverage beginning at 6:20 p.m. on 1170 AM KBOB and riverbandits.com.
