Blanco, Sandoval combine to carry no-no into ninth

DAVENPORT, Iowa – The River Bandits beat the Beloit Snappers 8-2 on Saturday night at Modern Woodmen Park in front of 5,705 fans. Ronel Blanco and Patrick Sandoval held the Snappers hitless through eight innings before Josh Vidales lined a leadoff single in the ninth.

The Bandits (27-15, 64-46) hit for the team cycle in order in the third inning. Chuckie Robinson hit an RBI single, Troy Sieber collected an RBI double, Abraham Toro-Hernandez roped an RBI triple and Daz Cameron blasted a two-run homer as consecutive batters, handing the Bandits a 5-0 lead. Sieber drove home a run with a single in the fifth and Ronnie Dawson plated two more with a single in the sixth to make it 8-0.

After Vidales singled in the Snappers (24-17, 56-54) ninth, the next two batters also collected hits. Luke Persico singled then Kyle Nowlin knocked in two runs with a double, cutting the margin to 8-2.

Blanco (5-3) tossed five hitless innings, walked three and struck out three. Sandoval earned his first save. The Bandits left-hander struck out the final two batters in the sixth and struck out the side in the seventh on his way to six strikeouts over four innings. Sandoval allowed both runs in the ninth on three hits. Matt Milburn gave up six runs in his start for the Snappers. Milburn (6-9) lasted five innings, struck out four and walked one.

Rojas’ ninth inning single clinches 6-5 win

DAVENPORT, Iowa – The River Bandits won their sixth straight game by beating the Beloit Snappers, 6-5, on Sunday afternoon at Modern Woodmen Park. Josh Rojas’ ninth inning single walked it off for Quad Cities.

For the second straight day, the Bandits (28-15, 65-46) scored five runs in the third inning. Chuckie Robinson’s two-run homer started the scoring of off Xavier Altamirano. An RBI double from Daz Cameron made it 3-0 Bandits. Josh Rojas hit a sacrifice fly and Luis Payano’s RBI single made 5-0. The Snappers (24-18, 56-55) bounced back for three runs in the top of the fourth. Kyle Nowlin’s RBI single cut the Bandits lead to four. Edwin Diaz grounded out to second to make it 5-2 then Miguel Mercedes blooped a single to left to complete the three-run inning. With two outs in the ninth, JaVon Shelby singled to tie the game, 5-5. In the bottom of the ninth, Rojas’ single hugged the left field line to score Troy Sieber from second base.

Abdiel Saldana worked into the sixth inning in his fifth consecutive start. Saldana tossed six innings, yielding three runs on six hits while striking out seven and walking one in a no-decision. Devon Carr hurled two scoreless relief innings. Carr struck out the side in the seventh, part of a five-strikeout outing. Despite blowing the save in the ninth, Jesus Balaguer earned the win, his second of the year. Ty Damron allowed the game-winning run for Beloit. Damron (3-5) pitched 1.2 innings, allowing one run on two hits.

Quad Cities rattles off 7th straight with 8-5 win

DAVENPORT, Iowa – The River Bandits knocked off the Beloit Snappers, 8-5, on Monday night at Modern Woodmen Park. Carson LaRue won his league-leading 12th game, backed by three homers. Ray Henderson went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI.

The Snappers (24-19, 56-56) scored twice in the first inning. Back-to-back singles then a double steal set up a two-RBI single by Kyle Nowlin. The Bandits (29-15, 66-46) took the lead in the bottom of the second. Abraham-Toro Hernandez belted a lead off solo homer. RBI singles from Kristian Trompiz, Ray Henderson and Troy Sieber completed the four-run, ten-batter second inning for the Bandits. In the fifth, Josh Rojas hit a solo homerun, his ninth of the year, to give Quad Cities a 5-2 lead. Chuckie Robinsons sixth inning two-run homer stretched the lead to six for the Bandits. Mike Martin knocked in a pair of runs with a single for the Snappers in the 8th to cut the lead to 8-4. Edwin Diaz scored on a wild pitch in the ninth to make it 8-5.

LaRue (12-5) allowed two runs, eight hits, struck out seven and walked one. Lucas Williams hurled 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, striking out four and walking one. Dustin Hunt allowed two runs in his lone inning of work. Salvador Montano allowed one run in the ninth for the Bandits.  Zack Erwin took the loss for Beloit. Erwin (5-3) lasted three innings, allowed five runs, eight hits, struck out two and walked two.

The finale of the four-game series is Tuesday night at 6:35 p.m. RHP Cristian Javier (0-0, 4.15) toes the rubber for the Bandits. RHP Seth Martinez (4-5, 3.28) takes the ball for the Snappers. Jake Levy and Connor Onion have coverage beginning at 6:20 p.m. on 1170 AM KBOB and riverbandits.com.
