"SILENCE and SONG" exhibit featuring the latest paintings by Leslie Bell.

Davenport, Iowa (January 9, 2017) - Retired St. Ambrose professor, Leslie Bell has not let retirement slow down his artistic endeavors. Pat Bereskin, gallery owner states, "The newest collection of Les' work dissects the layers of challenges young women face during peaks of their development." Bereskin goes on to say, "Some of my favorites peel back layers of symbolism and emotion that are timeless and truly relatable in the story each tells."

the artist has stated, "My subjects, girls, are being observed and noted at moments of personal growth and discovery. Growing up female has never been more complicated than it is today and my work paints a positive image of girls at a time vulnerability and potential," reflected Bell.

"Silence can be a time of creative realization and productive thought, just as song can be an effective means of self-definition. I use both time-based endeavors - within the single - frame reality of a painting to pay attention and homage to the universally important process of growing up, discovering ones unique gifts and shouldering the burdens of a complex society."

For many, the quiet reflections of January have been a time for making resolutions. Many, new and experienced artists, have wanted to revive or renew their direction and enhance careers. In addition to all of the art classes the gallery offers  for all ages and abilities, Leslie Bell will be offering a course for artists to assist them in reaching the next level of art making this March. "Artists who want to make art in a new way, but don't know how, will learn how you avoid clichés and escape from ruts. Bell stresses, "and how to make art that's authentic and unique.
