The Mississippi Valley Blues Society and the River Music Experience are co-sponsoring the Quad Cities' final performance of Bob Dorr & the Blue Band. Ending a 36 year career performing the blues for thousands of enthusiastic fans, Bob Door has announced a conclusion of the band's tour schedule. After headlining the first Mississippi Valley Blues Festival in 1985, and returning to the Quad Cities many times throughout the years, their final Quad Cities performance will be Saturday, December 9th, at the Redstone Room in the River Music Experience. In the Blue Band's 30 plus years, they have averaged playing 125 dates per year, mostly in Iowa and the surrounding Mid West. For 15 years the band made trips to Colorado ski resort areas, & also traveled to Sun Valley Idaho. Bob Dorr & the Blue Band have opened for B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Koko Taylor, Bobby Rush, Robert Cray, Roomful of Blues, Tower of Power, Leon Russel, Duke Robillard, Maria Muldaur, Little Charlie & the Nightcats, Asleep at the Wheel, and many others. Career highlights include a 25 year run at the Iowa State Fair. 5 appearances at the Mississippi Valley Blues Festival, and 2 appearances at the Kansas City Jazz & Blues Festival. In 2000, Bob Dorr was inducted into the Iowa Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. In 2006, he was inducted into the Iowa Blues Hall of Fame, and in 2007, he re-inducted into the Iowa Rock & Roll Music Association Hall of Fame. Bob Dorr & the Blues Band have also appeared on the Beale Street Caravan radio show, produced by the Blues Foundation in Memphis. There have been over 25 Bob Dorr & the Blue Band album releases, including 5 vinyl records. The band was one of the first Iowa groups to have their music released on CD, in 1987. In 2006, to celebrate the Blue Band's 25th anniversary, Iowa Public Television released a 2-DVD set spanning the group's history and including footage from 12 different years.
